Nose bleeds (TRIGGERING MY ANXIETY)

Hi all..

so when I was younger I used to get the odd nose bleed, never thought anything about it because everyone gets them at least once in their life. So as I got older I started to get nose bleeds about once or twice every two years.. again because it was happening yearly and not everyday I didn’t think anything of it.. now I’m 23 and I’ve suddenly been getting nosebleeds a lot frequently like it happened 3 days ago I was woke up and sat up.. I felt my nose start to run and I wiped it and it was blood.. I was in shock at first cause I didn’t expect it but It only lasted for about 2 mins then went so again I didn’t think anything about it, then the same day but on the night time I payed down to goto sleep and felt my nose running again so I got up and it was another nose bleed, this one lasted a bit longer then it stopped. I’m going to be completely honest cause I don’t want to rule this out.. I do often pick my nose (I was doing it to get the bloody scabs out there after my first nosebleed) so I’m sure that can cause a nosebleed. So after my second nosebleed it stopped for a whole day.. great it’s gone I thought but again on the night time it got another nose bleed (bare in mind the nosebleeds wasn’t that bad as they didn’t last very long.. maybe about 7-10 mins was the longest one) this was starting to really worry me.. like I started shaking but I was sweating.. I was really panicking! I managed to get some sleep (another thing the blood was only coming from my right nostril) so I woke up and I felt good besides a scabby nostril.. I was to scared to pick it or blow it as I didn’t want it to bleed again so I just left it.. it didn’t bleed all day which was great but I didn’t want to rule it out so I was careful.. I woke up a day after that and again no sign of nose bleed but I left it no picking or blowing my nose (although I really wanted to lol) so it gets to night time as I’m writing this cause I’m getting really worried now.. so through all this my nose has been feeling so dry and it like burns when I breath from the nose anyways so my left nostril was feelin scabby too so I picked it (with a tissue) and there was no blood just green lol then about a minute later I touch the inside of my left nostril and there was a spot of blood on my finger.. so I was like what? Why start bleeding from my left one? But it isn’t dripping with blood or anything like that it’s just abit of blood on the inside of my left nostril but it still scared me.. it’s now the weekend here so I can’t goto the doctors until Monday.. should I wait it out till then or maybe goto the hospital to get it checked out straight away?

I’m not sure if frequent nose bleeds are dangerous.. I’m not sure how to prevent them.. so I’m just here worrying so much, like I read on the internet and it’s not much information to go off to reassure me everything will be okay?

So please if someone can help me with advice l, reassuring and if they have been through something similar with their nose I would really appreciate it😞 and I apologise for this being so so long

I really appreciate you all taking the time to read through and reply ❤️

Hi Benn96, Since your nosebleeds are becoming more frequent, it is best to

have your GP take a look on Monday. It could be so many minor things causing

the bleed. Picking the nose can cause a scab which needs time to heal. If we

pick on it again, the scab reopens causing bleeding. In winter, the heat in our homes

can cause the nasal cavity to dry and get irritated but the same in the summer when

air conditioning is on. One of the things doctors can use is Cauterizaton to stop the

tiny blood vessels from bleeding. Done in moments, does not hurt. Another thing my

daughter's doctor recommended for her periodic nose bleeds is to use a Saline spray

or gel at the tip of the nose called AYR. It helps keep the nose passages moist.

Your doctor is the only one who can diagnose your condition. Try not to worry about it.

Let us know what he says. Good Luck Benn. It's going to be okay. :) xx

Thankyou very much Agora ☺️ I overthink a lot of stuff and it probably is something minor to nothing, but it’s always best to get someone’s opinion on this. I hope your daughter is okay? Does she get them frequently? And yes I will definitely let you no :) xx

My daughter does get them frequently at times. She is Anorexic and her vomiting

causes the irritation in her nasal passages. Cauterization and using AYR has help.

Will be sending good thoughts your way next week and waiting for an update. :) xx

Quick update; I went to my GP today they took my bloods as precaution (see results on Friday) but as to my nose they had a check and noticed my nasal membranes was dried out and I picked the dry scab to cause the bleeding, they provided me with nasal spray & petroleum jelly. Xx

Thanks Benn for updating me. That is what I thought. It's a panicky feeling to

experience a nose bleed. Hope your labs come back good on Friday.

Feel better, you are okay. :) xx

Yes very panicky, especially when I have no one to really talk to about it. Thankyou I hope they do too xx

Hi ; I know this is an old post but my teenage son is experiencing something similar with frequent nosebleeds. The doctor said that they are caused by his allergic rhinitis and gave him a spray. But I always worry that maybe the doctor missed something and that it s something serious. I hate it when I always jump to the worst case scenario!
