Cant sleep again

After a fairly good day, I can’t sleep, I don’t understand why I sleep every other night. Wednesday night I slept approx 10 hrs , been in bed since half 9 and still awake, tried sleep meditation. After my day out I had quite a few physical symptoms in the end, up til about half 8, I don’t understand ☹️ What to do?

Hi

Really sorry to hear that.

Maybe try making yourself stay up later even when you are tired. 8.00 or 9.00 is quite early to go to bed. If you stayed up til day 11.00 and just had 7 or 8 hours sleep you would probably be able to sleep the next night too.

All the best.

Kim

Thank you Kkimm. I was awake til around half 4/5 in the end ☹️ I might have to try staying up later to see

If I sleep too long one night the next night I cannot sleep. Even taking melatonin doesn’t help.

Really? i was beginning to think it was me, as my sleep before all this started was very good. Thank you so much for replying, how do you actually cope with it though, i dont seem to be.

Hi, I know that when my anxiety is really bad I get a built up of adrenalin. If you aren’t using it up and it’s sitting in your system, it could be keeping you up. When I feel like that I do my daily run as hard as I can to burn it out, but I think any little bit or extra exertion could help. If you walk, walk one or two blocks further than normal, or spend more time working in your garden, just try to tire yourself out and use up the adrenalin. At bedtime try to get as cosy as possible and maybe try to listen to a book on tape or a podcast that holds your interest enough that you try to focus on it, but not enough that your mind is so engaged that your body can’t take over and drift off to sleep. There is that fine line between keeping the anxious thoughts away, but not getting too into what your are listening to that it keeps you up.

Good luck!
