Thought I'd introduce myself and share my story so far.
My name's Christie, I'm 24 and live in England. Anxiety and depression is something I've believe to have been dealing with for as long as I can remember but have only just recently sought help after experiencing a panic attack.
A couple of months ago I had what I believe to be a panic attack and went to the GP. After having some tests to ensure it wasn't anything else, I was told it was anxiety and prescribed Propranolol to keep my heart rate down.
After having a few more panic attacks and constant worry every twing or pain is something bad, I went back on Wednesday and was given Fluoxetine. So far the side effects have been moderate, but waiting to see if they work for me. Going on antidepressants in itself has made me worried in case of a bad side effect as well as how it effects the brain, but I'm determined to push through and properly test them alongside therapy.
I decided to join this community after promising myself to stop googling symptoms all the time and thought this would be a good place to clear my head and share my worries with others going through the same thing.
I look forward to interacting with you all and hope today has been ok for you so far.

Welcome and good for you to stop googling- it will drive you nuts. Don’t worry about propanol, I’ve been on it for 6 years with very very limited side affects- it’s a beta blocker- I don’t believe it’s an antidepressant. You May ask to up the dose as I know it can go up pretty high. I know it works wonders for me in stressful situations- I take 60mg and can give a presentation fairly easy. I’m 6’ and 190lbs though.
Hope this helps.
Bryan- most who have seen my posts know that I swear by propanol 🙂
Thanks for the reply. I currently take 40mg a day and find it helps. Never had any side effects either which is great! Do you take it daily or just before a stressful situation?
Thank you, I mainly take it during difficult situations, but have thought about asking to be on it all the time- I think it works that great.
I know when I do take the 60mg, I’m pretty chill the rest of the day. I think it’s a great drug and seems to have only benefits. I’m on cymbalta and seems to have no side affects- been 2 weeks now..
Take care. So how is propanol working out for you? I would probably need 40 in the morning and 40 in the afternoon
Hi Bryan was just reading your post I take bets blockers for palpitations , I take 1.25mg concor which is really low dose, I am starting to feel the palpitations coming back not as before but they're there. I guess I hv to go bk by my doctor either to change meds or dosage. Concor although so low in dosage it makes my blood pressure constantly low from normal 120/ 75 it's 85/ 55 along that range . Does Propanol lower your blood pressure ? Any side effects ?
I would say that propanol does lower your blood pressure. Yes, talk with your doctor, I don’t know about the med your on, but propanol treats several different things including the heart.
I wish I could say that it didn’t lower blood pressure, but I’m on the opposite side as you for bp. I would hate to see what it is during a presentation 🙂
