how to calm down when you can't breathe well?

hey, haven't posted in a bit. i wish i could say it was because my problems were solved but that is not the case. anyway, frequently i feel i can't breathe very well/my breathing slows until i fear it'll stop/it stops completely for seconds at a time. i have asthma, allergies, have been mildly congested on and off due to cold weather and aforementioned allergies, and of course anxiety. all of these things cause my breathing to be even less than lackluster every day to the point where i begin to panic when i'm not getting enough oxygen. at the moment i do not own an inhaler or any sort of device to aid my breathing which is a huge bummer and not a help at all. i was wondering what i could do to calm myself so that the panicking doesn't make it worse as it tends to.

also, is there any way to control fidgeting when anxious? during these times i tend to move far too much and my own jerky movements tend to cause even more panic somehow.

If you can’t breathe very freely then sitting in. Upright position with your muscles relaxed will enable the body to need less oxygen. Try some calming music too whilst doing this.

I don’t want to say the wrong thing due to you having asthma etc but I doubt your breathing would stop on its own without good reason. Remember our bodies are very very good at looking after them selves especially when it comes to breathing. Thinking about it or trying to intervene will cause more anxiety if you have terrible breathing as it is.

And the restlessness is a case of re focusing your attention on something other than twitching or being anxious.

Basically just try to relax and clear your mind. More you do the more oxygen your going to need and waste.

it usually doesn't stop for no reason at all, you're right about that, it's more from the mental panic that seems to switch on immediately.

thank you for the response bud, i appreciate it.

Our bodies are very well equipped for coping with stress and threats and anxiety is just an over stimulation of these senses but there’s usually a trigger that’s very hard to find.

All I can suggest is that you try to keep calm and take slow but gradual deep breaths.
