Getting help

Hello all, recently went to my GP and I'm waiting to hear from the mental health team as I've chosen to talk to someone over medication. I've never been good as talking or expressing myself but at the same time I'm feared to have medication prescribed incase of side effects... Was just hoping to hear from anyone about how talking to a therapist helped them or is currently helping them

I feel therapy gets out absolute all your emotions and negativity as the weeks progress it usually makes you feel better as the weight eases from your mind that your actually discussing your issues. was at mine today.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you start talking because I feel when I get my appointment I don't know how to start talking and fear I'll waste their time

my therapist more or less asked me what brought me back again.my dad died recently he had cancer and kidney failure but he broke his leg in hospital and that's what killed him.complications due to operation.i took her back to the beginning about September when he became ill although we only realised he had cancer December 17.

Yeah when I went to my GP he said the waiting times are up to 10 weeks right now and that's my fear where I might need medication even though I don't want it.

yeah I waited since October just for registering today.then it said waiting could be four months.medication could see you through but then you would want to come off them when you got to your therapy.being active is good to stimulate the mind in a positive way that could help you.

Hi i went to a therapist for 6 weeks and i think she helped me somewhat. Inalso take lexapro with no side effects. A little weight lose in the very beggining is about all.

Hello Bobby,

May I ask how the lexapro is working for you? I just started lexapro 2 days ago (2.5mg because I was so scared about taking anything). I’ve been having terrible anxiety that’s led to depression due to health related issues and relationship issues. Do you think it will help me?

Hi

You can only try, it takes awile to kick in though. I take 10mg. Yes it helps but you have to give it a chance. Honestly i didnt get any side effects but everyone is different. Hope it works for you.

You can still have bad days even taking meds.

I also recently went to see my GP last Wednesday because my anxiety has gotten to the point where my hair has started falling out. I also have trouble talking to people and expressing myself. It could be why I only got a few words out before I burst into tears. I felt embarrassed but the doctor was so nice, and told me what I was feeling was perfectly normal. He also said I would be amazed to know just how many adults have anxiety but suffer in silence because they have trouble talking about it. He then told me he wanted me to take a few days to write about everything I was going through so he could get me the proper help i needed. I think writing is the best way if you have trouble talking, and the GP will be able to give a copy to a therapist along with your mental health plan. It took me 30 years to get myself help so I know how hard it is. Good luck with everything and I'll send good thoughts your way.

Yeah i nearly burst out crying when explaining my thoughts etc constantly felt judged as though I was wasting his and my time. I knew I first had anxiety or depression 2 years ago and it snowballed up to a very scary dark place. I never told anyone and somehow got through it then I thought great it's gone I'm out that hole but i noticed changes to myself and have felt awful past, maybe, 6-9 months idk but it has recently came back. Read and hear the best advice is to talk but it's so difficult to when you feel so low everyday, sometimes feels pointless moving or talking to anyone, you know. I might try that writing it all down because I've never ever been good at talking or expressing myself. My girlfriends noticed it the most because it's gotten to a point where I hardly speak and she constantly speaks, it's affecting some relationships with friends as well.
