Gagging when Excited - anyone else?

I've been reading about people having gag reflexes when they're nervous or scared, but I'm having them when I'm excited. No one else (I know) suffers from this, and the doctor also said to have a gag reflex when one is excited isn't normal. Anyone else who can help me with this? I've already threw up once when I was going somewhere I was excited for.

Are you sure it’s not like your breath gets taken away for a spit second and happens a few times in a minute or so ? If so that palpitations

Yes. It has to be one of my least favorite reactions to stimuli. My husband even made a joke last week, "Are you not excited about the trip? I haven't heard you gagging." Lol. If I am getting ready to do something that I am looking forward to or excited about, I start gagging couple hours before. Even when my anxiety is at bay, I gag. What's so weird with me is...I used to hiccup when I got excited or nervous, which is a diaphragmatic spasm as opposed to gagging now, which is an esophageal reaction. I have full on vommed a couple times, but I try to relax and breathe when I get worked up. Cannabis definitely helps me when I have my episodes. :-)

Yes. I gag when I'm nervous, when I'm full, while brushing my teeth, drinking soda, and when I'm excited.

If I get excited while I talk to people for a period of time I start to gag, which is really weird?? So you're not alone.

im 18. i like to game. i used to play a game called call of duty mw3. i played it everyday when i came home from school. i was so excited that i started to gag, and once or twice i actually threw up. i have those same feelings to date when i get to come home from a 12 hour day at work and even gag at work or after, some of it may be anxiety but i really do gag when i get excited to play games or smoke weed or something that makes me happy.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one to have this as well. Thanks for sharing this

When I feel giddy and feeling happy, rebellious and excited I start to feel a bit sick then I'll start gagging. I've only recently started experiencing it and I don't know what to do. Good to know there are other people that I can relate to but I would really like to know why it is happening. I feel like the gagging is more related to extreme emotion/feeling rather than anxiety(like when you cry too much, you're so dizzy and queasy, too much excitement and etc)

this happens to me too!! I don’t know how the experience is for you, but oftentimes when I get really excited, my throat constricts and I gag 1-3 times. I haven’t thrown up from it (yet) but I’ve gotten close numerous times. My mom, who is a healthcare professional, agreed that it isn’t necessarily normal and suggested that maybe my nervous system is working overtime. It’s a sucky thing that happens but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that experiences it!

Is there anyone that actually found away to battle this instead of living with it? Because this is not normal and it’s taking over my life for the worse

I experience the same thing. As soon as I receive exciting news or when there is a countdown to something like an upcoming trip, Christmas, first day of work/school, before bed (when in a good mood), after having coffee in the morning, when meds kick in, before a plane ride, and many many more. As soon as I have something to look forward to, and when air flows in my nose and mouth, it is immediately followed by a painful gag. I salivate as if Im about to hurl and vomit for real. Ive only vomited a handful of times in my life but i have been experiencing this since I was at least 5. Also, whenever im in this “gag” mode, my sense of smell gets super sensitive. If i smell something strong like perfume or cleaning solutions, it will drive me to actually vomit. Im glad to see im not the only one but, wheres our answer? Can anybody find out more about this?

I am the exact same! When I'm excited and definately not nervous to go to a party or something I just completely start gagging. Once I did throw up in the shower and I do also gag and throw up when I'm really nervous. Just when I feel really nervous or excited.
