Is anyone ‘anxiety free’?

Is anyone ‘anxiety free’ either through self help techniques, clinical intervention etc? I long for a day where nerves and anxious thoughts rule my brain!

I wouldn’t say it m anxiety free but I have gotten to the stage where it doesn’t affect me as much and I spend most of the day feeling like I did before I developed anxiety...only a few weeks ago did I never think I would reach this stage..I received thearpy and also to on medication which I have since weaned myself off..I don’t receive thearpy any more either and I find most days I am happy whereas before anxiety was ruining my life I thought I would never get there..

I doubt if there's a person on this planet who hasn't had some form of anxiety. We need some sort of alertness to protect us from danger. Anxiety is just a feeling. It's a horrible feeling when it affects so much of our body. It's more about realising that it has become beyond a joke that we need to seek help. I did... a couple of years with a psychologist, who helped me to breathe to relax, who helped me accept that I am not perfect and will make mistakes, which took away that awful prolonged anxiety which made me shake my foot constantly. I learned to pace myself, and I now accept that at times i will be anxious, and that it passes and that I am only human. I worked so hard and did everything the psych suggested. I accepted his help and didn't waste my time or his. I had three breakdowns in my 30's and then got help. I then became my mother's full time carer for four years, right up to her passing away four months ago. Every emotion I accepted because I am human and it gave me the tools to help me cope with my heartbreaking loss of my mum, otherwise I would have fallen into a heap. Please seek help from professionals. You will look back and shake your head as to why you waited.

I had crippling anxiety for years and now I rarely think about it. I had CBT which helped a little and learnt how to meditate but in the end the answer (and the thing that made it disappear) was so incredibly simple. I bought Dr Claire Weekes books second hand from Amazon. Although her books are dated they are still viewed as so very effective in tackling anxiety. So easy to read and with kindness and understanding she explains how to make your anxiety so weak that it’s almost laughable when it tries to raise its evil head. She teaches how to ‘float’ through dreadful anxiety feelings. Anxiety is a bully and by acknowledging its presence but just floating through it ( no matter how intense the anxiety is) it gets weaker and weaker. Then, because you are not reacting it sometimes presents new and startling sensations, float through these also and you will see your anxiety getting weak and less frequent until it becomes a rarity. The books are called ‘Peace From Nervous Suffering’ and ‘Hope and Help for Your Nerves’

Also brilliant is The Buddha Brain which explains how our brain works (no wonder we get caught up on the anxiety trap)

I have recovered from long-term social anxiety disorder and no longer fear going out in public, meeting new people, traveling, etc... I occasionally have a bout of health anxiety but it doesn't last very long. I try to allow myself to feel all of the "normal feelings", to get angry, be sad, be afraid, etc... and be ok with them without it turning into anxiety.

I'm a work in progress and some days it is easier than others but the freedom and peace of mind are so worth the effort.
