Hey guys, is it common to feel anxious after exercise? I did a cardio workout today and felt positively anxious after it.Wasn't dizzy, but I felt like something was terribly wrong. I know it could be because of incorrect breathing techniques during the workout, but I'm kind of freaked out right now. Felt like my body was buzzing? I did feel a little bit nauseous after that too.

Anxiety after exercise
Hello, I usually find with me it’s what I eat before/after that stabilises my symptoms after exercise. I tend to feel shaky, on edge and irritable after exercise if I haven’t eaten right. Did you manage to eat before/after? I hope you feel better!
Hi keptain, that can happen with intense workouts. Lactic acid builds up in the body causing that nauseous and just not quite right feeling. Always making sure you warm up before exercising and cool down after will help. Much more important is hydrating. Lots of water after working out will flush the body out and make you experience the high Endorphin level and not the down feeling. Breathing correctly is very important as well. x
You have some good replies, another thing I have heard spoken about and can kind of relate to personally, is that the feeling created by exercise can mimic symptoms of anxiety. For example, running raises your heart rate but panicking can also raise your heart rate. I hate exercise for this reason- don’t like the feeling of my heart racing!
For those prone to anxiety, our minds can confuse the two, making you think you are anxious when actually it is just ordinary sensations associated with exercise.
But like others have said, could also be to do with hydration, eating correctly etc.
Hi! I have to agree with you when it comes to hating the heart racing part. It always feels like I'm on the verge of a panic attack, even though I kind of know that it's just the aftereffects of exercising. I tend to do more strength training because it makes me feel less nervous at the end (not sure if that made sense!). Thank you for sharing though!
