Everytime I go to the doctor they point out that my heart is racing. Its always anywhere from 100 to 120 bpm, sometimes higher. That seems to be my resting heart rate. Is that normal for chronic anxiety? Any tips for slowing it down?

My heart is always racing, even when Im not anxious
Hi someone. Are you on medication of any kind? Even when anxiety caused, it is wearing on you to constantly be in that higher heart rate. Doesn't have to mean something is wrong with your heart but your nervous system is over sensitized. You may want to ask your doctor if there is something you can take to lower that heart rate. Is something currently bothering you that puts you in this state of fright? Therapy can help with that.
Of course there is always meditation and deep breathing but sometimes we need a little medication as well. xx
Hello Agora. Im on psych meds but nothing specific for my heart. Ive had about a billion ekgs and theyre always normal so I assume youre right and its just from the oversensitized nerves. My doctor has never offered me anything to slow it down but Ill ask her about it. Thanks!
Im in therapy, its pretty helpful. (: but i am still scared most of the time
Ask your doctor by all means. Sometimes a mild dose of Inderal can reduce the anxious heart rate which in turn would allow you to not be so scared all the time.
I was like that at one time and can tell you as long as you feel your heart skipping, racing whatever the case may be, the fear is there. I don't remember the last time
I even thought about my heart. My medication took care of 2 issues....high b/p and my anxiety. Good Luck let me know what your doctor says. It will all fall into place one day soon. I can promise you that. xx
