I have exactly the same, it’s something new that has been happening too. X
I wouldn’t worry if it’s happening after a coughing fit etc, but for no reason sounds like it could be blood pressure related, have you had yours checked lately?
Just relax then Hun, I went through a right dodgy few months of being a funny light headed feeling, was horrible
Go see a optician just to put your mind at ease.
It'sa common thing to see the stars in your eyes, it can happen when you sneeze, stand up or sit down to quickly. But go get your eyes checked and have the optician explain why it happens.
I too had episodes like you describe. I of course panicked and thought the worst. Went to the eye doctor and they diagnosed me with ocular migraines. However; I’m not sure that, that’s what they were. I do know that they were occurring at the height of my anxiety and that when I was fixated on them the episodes happened more often. So my advice would be to try not focusing on them so much. I know it’s scary but the less attention you give it the less it will come.
Migraine aura is the new name for scintillating scotomata and what Holly describes is not migraine aura which is a scintllating zigzag pattern that moves across the field of vision and takes 25 minutes to pass. You first realise you're having attack by a temporary blindspot - the zigzag pattern is mostly seen with your eyes closed.
I agree this could be caused by a quick surge or change in blood pressure due to a violent cough or the cough causing the vitreous jelly in the eye to tug on the retina.
But if you've had your eyes examined and nothing is amiss but to be on safe side instead of being seen by a high street optician get a doctor's referral to see an opthalmic specialist who has better experience and equipment to check the back of the eye if you haven't already.
