Feel like im posting too much, but i have a lot on my mind.
My heart rate sits around the 80s but can easily go up to 100s. Sometimes it goes to 70 as well. I was prescribed 10mg of propranolol today to help my anxiety, does anyone know how much it would decrease my heart rate? Would it get too low with my heart rate not being too high?

Relax and try the Inderal. 10mg is a tiny dose. This drug is used for people who have stage fright and they are given 80mg before the event so they can get on stage. Try and stop taking your pulse. Your heart knows exactly what to do and it is only responding to the thoughts you have and the beliefs that drive the thoughts. Inderal was and is a lifesaver for me.
Ahh thank you! I have a fitbit watch so my i can look at my heart rate all the time. It’s my first time on this kind of medication, im only 17 and so my anxiety just wants to tell me that im going to die from it. 🙁 thank you for replying, it bas reassured me!
Hi, turn off the fitbit for 7 days. Let the Inderal kick in. I was so afraid of medicines I used to cut them in half. When I was totally comfortable that I was not going to die, I would take the whole dose the doc suggested. I love this medicine and carry it with me to this day even tho I don't need it. It's my "emergency" med, kinda like chocolate!
I’ve only recently put it back on, but i think i will take it off again, or atleast turn the heart rate monitor off. So would you suggest me to cut it in half first? My first dose would be tonight, then I’ll start to take two daily
Yesterday (18th) i had 10mg in the morning and 5mg at night. Still have chest pains but im guessing they should go away? I took 10mg this morning, so I’ll probably feel tired soon
A heart rate of 70, 80 going up to 100 sometimes is normal. Athletes get it down to 60. There are no reports of masses of people with normal heart rates dropping dead after taking propranalol. You're stressing and obsessing about your health too much. We all do it. You're young and fit and healthy except for some anxiety maybe. It's the anxiety that's misleading you into thinking you'll die if you take propranolol, don't believe it, anxiety is a liar, it give us strange ideas but they're never true. Concentrate on living not dying.
Thank you for responding. I am trying my best to not think about it. I probably will be okay after taking my first tablet, its just the anxiety getting in the way as usual.
Accept your anxiety for the time being, it is a paper tiger, it may make you feel lousy but it won't ever kill you. Accept it calmly and deny it the fear it craves and thrives on and you will recover from your anxiety disorder. Think about it all you like but ACCEPT it for the moment, attach less importance to it, don't fight it because fighting just causes more stress and tension. By agreeing to co-exist with your anxiety today you are making certain it will leave you alone tomorrow.
Nice to see you on here! I have to agree with Jeff as I was you the past many weeks. It's so easy to let our minds run free and be over sensitive to feelings caused by our anxiety. I downloaded a heart rate app on my phone and became obsessed with checking it. This was a huge mistake and made my worries much worse. It's hard to check your own heart rate using devices that aren't at a doctor's office or hospital and you're on edge when doing so, so naturally it will be increased. What I've learned from my doctors at the hospital is everyone is different, biologically. Therefore, our resting heart rates are all different. I'm 6'5" tall and weigh 240 lbs. My resting heart rate is 56-60. That may seem lower than the "so called, national average." Trust me, that old resting heart rate scale is so out dated and takes in your age, weight and height into affect. Fit Bits are nice but still not accurate. I went to the cardiologist and had a stress test, blood pressure, ekg, ecg and a heart ultrasound done. I'm completely fine. So go schedule an appointment to relieve your worries and your heart rate will be ok. I'm not sure about your medicine as I'm not on any but I know how easy it is to obsess and worry about the heart. Best of days to come!
Thank you so much for your reply, it has made me feel better! I occasionally take my fitbit off and ignore it, but im trying to learn to not obsess over my heart rate whilst wearing it. My heart was checked in December and everything was okay, so it probably still is
Hi I take 80m. Per day for anxiety and shaking it works amazing. I am also very anti pills and was so scared to start taking it. It took me 2 weeks to take it but I'm so glad I did.my normal resting heart rate is about 52 but it has dropped to 48 once in a while. I have no side effects from the medication and have been on it about 3 months now. Btw 10mg is nothing from what I'm told some people can take up to 500mg a day!!
I had 5mg last night, then 10mg this morning. I felt quite tired and sluggish most of the day and my body just wanted to panic, so im guessing its not used to feeling calmer and then worrying over feeling tired from taking them. But tonight im going to take 5mg rather than 10mg. Feel like its better to ease into it
Don't feel that way, it's never too much...there are times we need get it out, cause family and friend s don't want to hear it or want to lecture you. Even if nobody replies, that's ok that's what this site is for. Take care, keep writing
You can never post too much here. We all understand. I see you’ve got lots of good advice already. Since I don’t know much about the heart rate I’ll leave it at that.
