Hi I started to have anxiety attacks a few months ago. It goes and then if I can't sleep it comes back. Any suggestions on sleep remedys. I have been prescribed Citalopram. I haven't started them yet. I don't usually take tablets. I have been taking Kalms.

Hello there, I’m sorry to hear that you are struggling with anxiety. I’ve battled with it for most of my adult life and sometimes I still feel like I am no better than I was twenty years ago. I know that when I’m going through really tough times I will get insomnia really bad and that makes the anxiety worse. It becomes a vicious cycle. I’ve found that the worst thing you can do when you can’t sleep is to continue to lay in bed and force yourself to sleep, this is a loosing battle. I usually get up and try reading or do a crossword puzzle or anything simple to calm my thoughts and relax. After about thirty minutes of this I will attempt to go back to bed. Sometimes it works but some nights it is hopeless.

Is there anything in particular that you can point to that is causing your anxiety?

Thank you for replying I think my anxiety is linked with my menapause. I will take on board about not sleeping. I do listen to music but I will try getting out of bed and reading or something. Thanks again.

The best thing for you to do is turn off all devices and make your room completely dark and close your eyes and think off good things

Hi Sue, please try to drink green tea or chamomile tea before bedtime.

Also, if you’re into music, try to download Om Chant 412Hz from youtube, and put your earphones on. Set the volume to a point that the audio doesnt hurt your ears. Listen carefully and focus on the tune and breath slowly (inhale and exhale like your intune with the chant). This will help your mind and body relax and before you know it you already feel asleep. You’ll wake up more relaxed as well.

This is what I do for my insomia or during panic attacks.
