so i've heard so much about cbt figured I would give it a try. I was seeing a counselor once a week and she said I was doing great. But now with change of meds I find myself all over the place at times :) (and the woman change doesnt help so i'm being hit with a double whammy). Has anyone tried Cbt and how did it work?

Hi Mpa5524

I have done it and it worked very well for me. But a few things that I think are important.

1.You must keep on with it.

2.Believe in the therapist, and that he/she will be able to help you.

3. Believe in yourself, and that you are able to cope. I wrote about it in a post called "thoughtarrest"

4. Know that there is hope and others did it.

Thank you for this info. This is my second time going through this but for some reason its just different this time around, maybe because i'm older who knows.

Hi Mpa5524,

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a psychological treatment model based on the idea of a trigger event occurs and what you think, affects how you feel and what you do. Physical sensations also play a role. These elements interact and influence each other and ultimately have an impact on your quality of life.

The aim of CBT is to treat problems like depression or anxiety by addressing what is unhelpful in other areas. For instance, for my depression, CBT was used to increase activity levels, decrease negative thinking, monitor problem eating, strengthen problem solving and coping skills and build emotional resilience.

CBT aims to help you recognize the patterns in think-feel-do as well as what triggers them and what keeps the problems going. Healthier habits are built up.

CBT is active (involves lots of practice), focused on present issues, guided by your specific goals and involves you and your therapist working together as a partnership.

Excellent reply!

It certainly does take some working at. No quick fix.

I had CBT for 14 weeks and it certainly helped me with some of my issues.

I didn’t actually believe in it to begin with but, with perseverance and encouragement from my family I continued to the end of the course.

I was extremely grateful for the help I received.

Hi Mpa5524, My therapist did CBT with me, it was hard work. I've heard it work wonders for some, it wasn't my cup of tea. She was very pushy with the goals which heightened my anxiety. I think I just wasn't in the right frame of mind at that time. I liked sitting back in a chair while she softly spoke imagery and relaxation to me :) I did eventually go back to it and graduated this time around. :) Good Luck Mpa, well worth trying. xx

Seems to work for some and not for others. I prefer to work at my speed and set my own goals. I feel more comfortable like that and slowly, very slowly it seems to be working. Hope it goes well for you x

I felt their attitude helped xx
