CBT for panic attacks?

I have recently been offered an opportunity for CBT to help with panic attacks. I have approximately 3-5 a week ranging from 15 minutes to 40 minutes. I cannot pinpoint my triggers some times.

Has anyone else had CBT and talking therapy for severe anxiety /panic attacks, and if so, found it successful? Thanks in advance :-)

Hi Jodi, I have been fortunate enough to have found a therapist who has done CBT

to help me with my severe anxiety attacks. She started with relaxation and imagery to help calm me down. She then switched to CBT because I wasn't getting anywhere.

This therapist has been there for me multiple times a week. In my state of anxiety, if I left a message I knew she would call me back within moments. Sometimes we talked 5 days a week at the beginning. It's not an overnight cure but slowly retrains your mind from thinking negative thoughts and moving on. It's taken a long time for me to get better and I still struggle with the agoraphobia but feel the anxiety symptoms are going away. I know what to do now when it might happen. I didn't believe in it at the beginning, but as time went on, I would remember what she told me and use that in place of my medication (which I have now been off of for close to 2 years.

I wish you well. Good Luck.

Thank you so much. I'm very apprehensive about talking to someone but it has gotten to a point now where I don't have many other options. I'm so glad things are working for you xx

Jodi, things will work out for you as well. Maybe this will help with the apprehension you feel. Someone once told me to remember, the therapist/doctor works for you and you can fire them at any time if you feel uncomfortable or that it's not working. xx

Thank you, you're very kind. I guess that's true, I think it's down to being very scared to reveal all these things I've not spoken about for such a long time to someone I barely know. I will try to keep you all up to date with how I get on. xx

Hi, I had 6 CBT sessions. It didn't 100% cure it BUT what it did do was give me reassurance and guidance on how to deal with my anxiety and it did help so much,I had bad social anxiety at one point and thanks to CBT I don't struggle as much anymore with going out, I couldn't go out without my husband at one point but I have been out without him with the girls and had a good time and took the tips on what my CBT lady told me to do. I now start my group therapy which aperantly is suppose to be really good as there's about 5-8 of u in the group n u can help each other out on how to overcome ur issues,

Keep us posted on how u get on and good luck it really does help as long as you take the right steps that the therapist tells you to do :) X
