I have severe anxiety and depression and agoraphobia due mainly to thyroid problems and high cortisol levels that my body is pumping out.
Has anyone had CBT privately and did it help them

Hello
Can you get CBT on the NHS ?
I have had it on the NHS but not private but would imagine it would be just as good and maybe better but until you tried it I suppose you would never know
I think as well it would depend on the therapist you get as if it is NHS or private some are better than others or we seem to connect better with some than others so check the private one's out any feedback they may have etc
You will have to let us know if you go private and how you found it
Take Care x
yes you can get it on the NHS but the waiting time is horrendous and because I am already having psychology, I can't have both
Thats a good link Jefner I will have a better look later when I have more time
I know the waiting times are dreadful
Do you feel the psychologist is helping at all ?
It may be better to finish with her/him first before you look at CBT because they all have different approaches and one maybe telling you one thing and another something different which I would find confusing but maybe you would be ok with that , just a thought though , but you go for it if you feel this will help you and you can afford it , nothing to loose by trying it out x
difficult to tell with the psychologist as it's early days but I need more help now before I top myself, because those feelings are coming back again
Well both psychologists as well as therapists that do CBT neither of them are a quick fix but I can say that seeing a psychologist myself and putting the work in eventually started to help me with my ocd but it took time so if you are getting desperate remember the Samaritans are there 24/7 if you need someone to talk to in person and I would talk with your Doctor because not sure if you are taking medication but you may need something different but please talk to them x
no good talking to my Dr, all he wanted to do was put me in a mental hospital. Am already on Seroxat, beta blockers and diazepam. He has no clue about thyroids and the autoimmune system I am getting support from ThyroidUK here and also pages on Facebook. If the anxiety symptoms would go away I would be able to cope much better
Sorry to hear that you don't have an understanding Doctor , is there another one maybe in the same surgery that possibly would be more understanding ?
Glad you seem to have support though in other ways x
all the drs are crap at my surgery. I actually have no support around me as I live alone and no-one understands. The only support I have is here
Jefner, I'm in the states but all in all CBT did help but not right away. It was hard work as well as having to believe what the therapist said would work. There was homework involved, it didn't come easy but nothing ever does. It is what put me back on track. I wish you well in getting an appointment. x
what do you mean by hard work and homework?
Jefner, the hard work was mostly believing what the therapist said would get me to my goal. For me, it brought up all the things I didn't want to address. By the time the session was over, I was worn out emotionally. As for the homework (that's what I called it) I'd have things I had to do in order to progress forward, such as making a doctor's appointment, getting out to the store. For an agoraphobic, that's not an easy task. But eventually I did it and because of CBT I'm near the finish line of winning. x
What thyroid problem? Is it hyperthyroid?
