My anxiety attacks felt like ...HOURS!!

I overcame them, but now my daughter is struggling with them.

So how long do they last?

Google says from 5 -20 minutes, but the "stress" or "side effects" can still linger in your mind. Some people also reported 2 hours.

But if you know they are going to end and keep that in mind, it at least gives you hope!

HOPE is very important!

Any thoughts on how long they last?

Hello. You write panic attacks can last 5 hours? Please let me know which study, organization, i.e. discovered and documented that. I never knew they could last that long.

in reply toHearYou

Well when you are chronic anxiety disorder they can last all day and they can be triggered at any time when you’re not even stressed and it happens to me all day every day and they do last a very long time

Thank you, so this is a personal experience, not from any research. Ok. I'm going through medication adjustments with my PTSD, which is basically anxiety with nightmares, depression, and sometimes anger. For my anxiety and nightmares, the neuropsychiatrists are trying the medication used to treat soldiers with PTSD.

I don't want to go to bed at night because my anxiety is high and I don't want the nightmares if I sleep. So I go 2 days or so without going to bed on purpose due to the anxiety.

I don't have a copy of DMS5, is chronic anxiety disorder listed in it as a psychiatric disorder, or is it basically anxiety that just never goes away and is treated differently than the anxiety of my PTSD?

I have violent nightmares nearly every night from the anxiety part of my PTSD.

Does your anxiety create nightmares for you?

No, my anxiety never created nightmares, but it did cause lots of difficulty in falling asleep because it was directly related to a heart condition (AFIB) that I had.

10 minutes, 20, 10 seconds back to back ones can be short but go on for an hour if your body doesnt calm down its gonna go on for awhile just sit back breathe in deep breathes and youll begin to calm down they really vary in length of time and amount you get in one day so im gonna say they vary person from person

It tends to vary for me personally can be a few minutes other times well over an hour. Then it takes me over double the time to get over it after some time reflecting

Thx for the comments.

On verywell.com/anxiety-attack... it says there is a difference between panic and anxiety attacks, but the symptoms are very similar.

In short: Panic attacks: Symptoms are sudden and extremely intense, - out of the blue -, peak at 10 minutes, but one attack can go into the next one.

Anxiety attack: Intensifies over a period, is highly correlated to excessive worry about a potential "danger" and may be persistent over a long time.

One must just keep on breathing good deep breaths and know there is hope!
