I'm looking into getting professional help in dealing and diagnosing my anxiety. Recently my anxiety has started to impact my relationships with those around me as I find my myself cancelling plans because I can't face being outside in fear of judgement and social interaction. I'm unsure of how to start the conversation of my anxiety or who to start one with. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Who do I talk to about my social anxiety ?
For professional help I suggest making an appointment with a psychologist and don't worry on how to start, they help you along and they make recommend seeing a psychiatrist if you want to try medication. Or you can always see a psychiatrist first and you talk to them to see if medication is the right option for you.
I wish you the best
Hi! I would suggest you asking your doctor to refer you a psychiatrist, he/she can help & prescribe necessary medication. Sam
Hi Danielle. Your GP can help you. Counselling will defo help you. This is my experience. I can relate to how your anxiety is impacting your life. At my worst in 2015 I couldn't get out the front door for 6 weeks due to my anxiety and depression...id stopped taking my meds...NEVER again. Best wishes.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will book an appointment within the next few days. It's been impacting my life to the point where I can't look at people in the eye so I walk with my head down.
Aw honey I can SO relate to you. I can still do that when my anxiety or depression rears its ugly head. Its soul destroying. And i just cant wait 2 get home in the safety of my flat when it happens. Best of luck with the GP. And that's great uv been able to make an appt 2 c him. This is a huge achievement. I'd live 2 hear how u get on but no pressure at all.
Oops I c uv still 2 make an appt sori I misread that. Best of luck making the appt
Thank you
Hi either go through your gp to be referred for counselling or find someone private. Are you in uk? You are not alone don't be afraid to open up its the best thing you can do for your long term health and wellbeing to make that step towards help for yourself x
Thank you and yes I am in the uk. I've decided it's time to open up about my mental health. x
Good for you. I personally didn't find NHS worthwhile for me the wait was too long. I found a local therapist through the counselling directory and it's been great no waiting and it's flexible it's also reassuring that if I ever need to touch base again in the future I can make another appointment no waiting lists. Worth a look: counselling-directory.org.uk/ good luck x
