Hi Jayke0524, Reading back over posts from others on Citalopram tends to show that sleepiness is a normal side effect. (as with the start of any SSRI med). It might just be a matter of your body adjusting to the medication. Also, the time of day a med is taken can be beneficial in helping to sleep. Since it seems to take 4-6 hours before you start feeling tired, ask your pharmacist or doctor if it would be okay to take the medication later in the day. You may be trading off some anxiety vs sleepiness in the daytime. Again, this may all adjust in time once the dose reaches full efficacy. Never adjust or stop a medication w/o your doctor's approval. A simple call can help with your concerns. Feel better. x

Hi, don't worry at all. When I started Paxil 10 mg a few months ago I felt sleepy for a while but it didn't bother me cause being totally anxious and unable to relax my body was much worse! It will pass and was just thinking today that now after almost 3 months on paxil I feel pretty good so I can join in on life again! Btw I was told to take it around 3-4 pm. My cousin has been on paxil for years, she goes to the gym and has stayed at a good weight. Take care

Absolutely right Francesca61, by not fighting that sleepy, tired feeling, you may be able to enjoy the break from being so anxious all the time. It's true that after time, it will no longer effect you like that. Finding a time that works best for you is also important. I believe many people may gain weight because of the "feel good" feeling which makes some reach for added calories. Eating properly, working out can help in keeping the unwanted pounds off. Thanks Francesca61 for sharing some insight into taking an SSRI of any kind and how it can help. Continued success x
