Can anxiety cause you to hear people calling your name ?

I have health anxiety and I'm so scared I'm developing schizophrenia or psychosis, I haven't slept well for the last week but just today I keep hearing my name being whispered but there is no one around me ? Can anxiety cause this ?

It happened to me a few times when I was really bad about 15 years ago, really freaked me out but I got over the anxiety and it stopped. I wasn't sleeping well either at the time.

That happens to me sometimes I think my daughter is shouting me I go in to her and say what! And she says I never shouted you. It hasn't happened for a while now could be the anxiety.

I have heard my doorbell go when there's nobody there. I know it's not a prank. This is most likely to happen when I'm just waking up.

Hi, yes I get this a lot, name being called and I also hear phone ringing when it isn't, I thought it was warning that something was wrong with someone and they need me, really scared me at first but when I plucked up enough courage to speak to dr he said it's common when anxiety is high so not to stress over it xx

It`s fairly common for someone to hear things like this as they drop off to sleep. It`s called hypnogogic hallucinations. Some years ago I heard my late mother calling me from another room as I was drifting off to sleep, that was creepy!
