I can't calm down. My anxiety is so bad all I want to do is cry. I'm scared because I'm on klonopin for a long time and afraid I'll never get off. I can't stop being afraid of the feelings and thoughts. Please help me. Tell me what to do.

Scared
Hi puppy11, If you have been on Klonopin for a long time, it probably is no longer working and you are literally going through withdrawal. I went through the same thing when on Xanax for many years. The feelings and thoughts were strong. When I went to the psych doctor she explained by body was going through withdrawal. I never knew you could be on a medication and go through withdrawal. It happens. The brain wants a higher dose. You need to see the doctor who prescribed your medication and let him know what is going on. He will either substitute another med or will slowly wean you off the Klonopin. Don't do it yourself, must be monitored by a doctor when coming down off a drug.
Agora1 this is what's happening to me on lexapro and I didn't know it could happen either. how long did it take for you to ween off the Xanax? And are you on anything now?
I wasn't on Xanax. I'm on three milligrams of klonopin and 50 mg of pristiq. And not doing well. Because my thoughts are that I'm scared of the anxiety
Hey Puppy11
You have to understand that you and your mind are creating these problems. Right now, all you're thinking about is bad bad bad. You have to get a grip on your thoughts and relax. Trust me!! I had horrible anxiety and panic attacks and as soon as I started to right down how I felt and what made me feel that way, things started to get better. It will only work if you try it.
I dont know who prescribed these for you/ how much you are taking but such medication is highly addictive; i get low dosages of similiar medication, in very small quantities; only for use in a panick attack if need be; i wouldn't want to become addicted to medications such as this as i understand the withdrawals are complete hell; though i need them as an emergency. It is probably as people are saying re your body has become used to them, so you are not getting the same effect as before; how long have you been on them, and how many per day? I wonder if some people should be in a detox unit re coming off such medication; as you need to be weaned off gradually, and you would feel i would think alot safer in a detox place. Get back to your doctor to discuss whats going on. In meantime, dont drink any caffeine is my advice, use breathing techniques; warm baths, but go see your doctor to discuss your options; i don't think people should have to go through hell on their own coming off such stuff.
I agree suseanna that I don't feel we should go though hell getting off these meds! I would never have gone in anything if I knew what I would be going through now trying to ween off lexapro no body warned me of side effects/ Withdrawals before taking this and and even my current psych dr says it's the cleanest drug out there! What a joke!!
