I was prescribed a medicine called Mirapex for my bipolar disorder and I had a bad allergic reaction to it. Broke out in a rash all over my body. So I'm off that now, but he has prescribed a new one its place. It's called neurontin. Has anyone ever heard of using this drug for anxiety and depression? Thanks!

I personally take neurontin for peripheral neuropathy, or pain, tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. It's prescribed by my neurologist. Mirapex is for RLS--restless legs syndrome. It appears your doctor is treating you for off-label uses of these drugs.
From calmclinic.com:
ANXIETY DRUGS: Neurontin: How it's Used for Depression and Anxiety. There are several drugs that may be prescribed for anxiety that are not commonly in use. One such drug is Neurontin. Neurontin - also known as Gabapentin - is a drug that is rarely prescribed to those whose sole mental health issue is anxiety. But it is occasionally prescribed to those that are struggling with bipolar disorder as a way of relieving anxiety symptoms.

From Drugs.com:
Mirapex is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control. Mirapex is also used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS).
Also from Drugs.com:
Neurontin (gabapentin) is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. Gabapentin affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain.
Neurontin is used in adults to treat nerve pain caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster).
Neurontin is also used to treat seizures in adults and children who are at least 3 years old.
