Can food affect anxiety?
Yes, for sure. Big meals can throw anyone's blood sugar off and those of us with anxiety really feel it. Digestion is harder when were anxious, and so tummy troubles after eating can happen. Take a probiotic regularly and be careful to not consume too many carbs or sugars. This too shall pass.
Definitely. If I eat too many carbs before bed or have an unbalanced meal, I can wake up in a fog. Many people have delayed food allergies, or IgG food intolerances, which can cause considerable symptoms. I felt my anxiety improve when I stopped eating foods that I was sensitive to. Being hungry or having acid reflux can also trigger anxiety. Just listen to your body and do what makes you feel better.
I have major issues with food and they cause major anxiety issues including horrible panic attacks. It mostly affects me in the middle of the night. My triggers I've finally discovered are also common problems foods such as corn, wheat, oats, dairy, and chocolate. I was on psych meds for 10 years until I cut out these foods completely and starting taking zinc, vit-d, and magnesium supplements (top 3 main vitamins most people are deficient in). I also take probiotics.
Thank you for your responses. I just feel frustrated as some nights I'm completely fine and others I wake up in a flat panic tossing and turning and feeling all funny. I understand it has to do with what I have eaten before bed but sometimes I'm fine if I have eaten a certain thing then other times I'm not. Do you wake up feeling hot and all wiered ? My stomach then doesn't stop moaning. Thank you
