Stool colour

Hi all, thanks for reading. I had a loose(ish) bowel movement and noticed that there were black "spots" and"areas" amongst the rest of the feces which was a normal brown colour. What is likely to cause these black areas which were of the same consistency as the brown feces?

Hi Farleigh, I would say it has more to do with something you have eaten that passed right through. (Blueberries, Raisins etc) Always best to check with your doctor if it continues.

Thanks for reply. I have not eaten any of those. Recent food I have eaten are chicken, chips, Weetabix cereal, apple, peach, brownie. Couldthese have this effect

I would think that what caused it. After all sometimes small pieces don't get chewed up and show up in the BM as spots.

some of the black areas were of varying sizes but could this just be because of lack of chewing? Thank you so much

It could be different sizes. The thing is if it continues to have your doctor check it out. But it certainly sounds like food is causing that. Take care.

I have the same thing sometimes. But have had stool samples for that tested for blood and nothing .
