How do I get rid of Health Anxiety Once & for all?

I could just be doing something simple and I will get a ache in my head or chest pain, and I will start worrying so much it is something serious... how do I stop this for good? I would be so much happier if I could get rid of it...

Practice changing your reaction. I started by having a phrase I would repeat in my head when it happened like, "this is nothing" or "I'm fine". I tried my hardest to ignore it and move on. It was so hard at first, but became much easier over time. Now when I get an ache or pain that scares me I just stretch my arms upward, take a deep breath, and as silly as it sounds, make myself smile. I'm sorry you're struggling.

Thank you so much, I have been doing that and I have to say it has been helping but sometimes I let my mind take over and it goes to its worse. So you are saying it will get better in time?

Yes. The hardest part of overcoming my anxiety was how slowly I made progress. I would take a step forward and then ten backward. Retraining your brain to not go down that scary/panic path when your body is feeling awful and real physical symptoms(although not dangerous) is very hard.

I have had it 40 years and woukd love to get rid of it. Had meds counselling the lot. I think therapy might be your best bet. Good luck. At least doctors are more aware of the condition now

Hi

Its not something that will completely go i'm afraid it's more a case of learning to cope with it and it is not easy and takes time. I find relaxation music and excercises help me, if you google mood juice there are some very good ones on this site to download. Hope this helps you, it will take time tho x

I am constantly dealing with different aches/pains/symptoms, and cannot help but wonder if all of these are actual caused by anxiety. I have had a constant pain in my upper left abdomen, that gets worse when I eat. I have ringing in the ears, which is worse at night. I get electric shocks in my face/head/arms/legs, as well as tremors and numbness. I also get the sharp pain in my temples. My BP and HR are normally fine, even when the above symptoms occur, but my HR does act up during sleep. I am lightheaded most of the time and it makes life hard to deal with.

I am not on meds, but do take a lot of herbal/vitamin supplements, and I will occasionally take half an ativan, if I feel I really need it.

Crazy, crazy, crazy!!!!

Honestly , it really freaking sucks... I have been through so much with health anxiety still comes up here and there. Now I've learned to cope with it a bit more. I think it has a lot to do with accepting that some things you really can't control. But, it is good to get checked by your primary physician just to be on the safe side and if they tell you everything is fine, especially if you've seen more than one doc.Just take their word. They deal with very Ill patients if they thought you had something bad they would definitely know. Just have to trust and realize you can't control everything. Like you know health things that aren't controllable.. And yeah just keep your head up and keep fighting. You can learn to control it and live a happy life. Start living, you are wanting to control the symptoms in your body so much that you are actually giving it all the control and it is actually controlling you. Don't let it.
