need advice on how to deal with sudden anxiety

Hey Everyone,

I'm new here and want to say hi. Also, I wanted to get your advice on something. About one week ago I started getting anxiety about going to work. It happened after getting pulled into a meeting with 2 of my superiors, having a one-on-one meeting with my manager, and a follow up meeting with both. After those meetings I started to feel my manager wanted me gone.

The anxiety started to come in the morning right before work. I would get anxiety in my stomach and breath heavy to the point of light headedness and dizziness.

I've never had this happen to me in my life. I've been working steady for 5+ years and have never had this type of problem. It started because I felt as if my manager wanted me to leave the company. Since he has more power than me I felt anxiety. It's 4 days and I haven't had the ability to go to work. The weird thing is my company is known for its outstanding culture and has won a lot of awards for it.

I even had to go to the emergency room because I fell over after breathing too heavy and fast. Every time I think about going to work I get anxiety and my mind starts to panic. I have no idea if I'll be able to go back. I feel really helpless. I would love to hear what anyone has to say. Thank you in advance.

Hi there, I know how you feel I suggest you see a counselor asap as they can give you methods to cope.

Also you only "think" your manGer wants you gone this is in your mind you are going through scenarios that may not ever happen or be the case, now you have worked your self up so much that YOU are the one who is sabotaging your job, you are the one who thinks they can't go back because you think someone else wants you gone so it's happening any way not by the manager but by you and your fear. Do you see what I'm saying?

You have the power and I think a therapist will help you see that. Have you got friends or family you can talk to?

Try some meditation and breathing exercises there are lots of guided videos on YouTube and phone apps.

I hope you feel better soon :)

Hi Bud,

I'm currently fighting stress from a coworker at work who just doesn't like me and wants me fired making everyday at work a battle BUT I have a toolbox of coping mechanisms memorized sayings and if all gets to worse for wear I will grab my little bottle of ativan and take a quarter of one. I only have to do that once a year maybe. In all seriousness get help for your confidence in yourself. Get counseling get some meds if need be but don't let that son of a bitch win whether he wants you fired or not. You sitting out day after day is only going to enable your fear of work to get more and more powerful. Work it out....force yourself. You know the secret to strongholds from fear? There is only one way to defeat it. Do it. No matter how uncomfortable how scary, you pass out even. Do it. The human body is amazing. You have a whole nervous system dedicated to keeping you alive while unconscious and waking you back up. Your fear makes your body shut down. Ever see a goat get scared and pass out. Same thing. Fight or flight. It's all chemical reactions and nerve processes. The more you avoid it the more of a stronghold you will have. Only YOU can decide to battle it and slay that dragon by running at it head on. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Hi there, just wondering how you are and if you have managed to face going back to work yet?

I just found your post, it's over a year old , I just wanted to know how you're getting on with things now? Your problem with your boss and going to work, and feeling like the dragon 🐲 wanted me gone, the whole lot.

I also had days off because of crippling anxiety about facing her, she made me feel so horrid.

I ended up quitting; but I regret it terribly now; I should have stayed and slayed the dragon 🐲 so to speak ;)

Seriously good luck 🍀
