Hi. Is it possible to never have suffered from anxiety then get it and have it every day for 6 months? When will it go away? Please

It will go away when you find the cause. If it's psychological it could be the result of something which happened long ago, or even that you've forgotten. A good counsellor can help if your GP will refer you.

Also, ask your GP for blood tests to check out hormone & thyroid levels.

Good luck Vale. x

Thanks for the reply. I am cuntrently seeing a physcologist I'm not sure how much it is helping. I have had many blood tests and have all come back fine. Some days are great but the majority have been terrible I don't even bother telling my family about it anymore. It's easier for them if I act like I'm fine. But deep down I am suffering everyday.

Keep on with the psychologist because the final appointments can often turn out to be the light at the end of that dark tunnel.

I have to admit it was medication which eventually stopped my stomach from churning & heart from summersaulting, but I also had some great help from a particular psychologist.

Take care Vale x

Thank you. I only have 2 sessions left that are covered with Medicarewhat medication was that?

It's paroxetine. I've used it now for almost 30 years but lowered the dosage about 10 years ago, and still found it quite sufficient to keep the symptoms and dark thoughts at bay.

So your healthcare doesn't come free ? Where are you -- the US ?

No Australia we get 10 free physc appoitments a year after that it's $192 per 1 hour session. Is that a antidepressant ?

Palpitations are often caused by a lack of carbon-dioxide in the body which is sometimes a result of heavy sighing or over-breathing.

Oxygen is converted to carbon dioxide in the lungs by steady, normal breathing. If this is prevented, the result is often dizziness, light headedness, palpitations and even panic attacks.

And so often the palpitations come on unexpectedly, almost 'out of the blue', which usually causes panic because there appears to be no discernable reason for it.

Deep breathing in and out will only make the symptoms worse. Try taking a large inhalation of air and holding it for as long as possible to allow the conversion to happen naturally without using meds.

One of the first attacks I had when I was young resulted in an ambulance being called. Of course the first thing paramedics did was to fasten an oxygen mask to my face. This made the symptoms so much worse and convinced me I was having a heart attack !

The doctor in A&E apologised for the fact I'd received more oxygen, explaining that it was standard practice, but had been inappropriate in this event.

Sorry for the long reply but palpitations can only be managed successfully if we understand the basic facts.

Best wishes, Cat x

I have a pulse oximeter which takes ur oxygen and pulse my oxygen is 98

Monitoring your pulse/oxygen/blood pressure all results in more anxiety and symptoms of stress. Get rid of any monitors or other gadgets which will only result in more unnecessary worry.

Everyone's vital signs fluctuate constantly throughout the day ; this is natural. But if you are constantly watching them you'll drive yourself nuts. It's the preoccupation with the fine details of your health that is causing the awful symptoms.

If you can start to accept that palpitations are common and harmless, and focus more fully on other aspects of your life you'll break that vicious circle of watching = worrying = symptoms.

I wasted many years of my life stressing about my health until I survived a serious illness, quite unrelated to anxiety. I refuse to waste any more.

Next time you have sudden palpitations, do not go into a panic but go about your business and hold onto some deep breaths. If possible take a brisk walk to burn off any excess adrenalin.

Good luck to you. xx :-/

I literally just had this happen and that's why I logged on here. could even be our subconscious anxiety, and those palpations happen alot when your body is at rest

No, I thought the exact same thing. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

These really are all typical symptoms of anxiety. Talk to your GP about how you're feeling and ask for a referral to CBT sessions.

He/She might suggest medication to see you over this difficult period, but there are psychological reasons for your symptoms which only a trained therapist can help you unearth.

Best wishes Cat x
