Panicking about medication again.

I was prescribed Ranitidine 12 years ago for persistent heartburn, & although I only took them when necessary, I`m now alarmed that I may have set myself up for alzheimer`s in the future. According to the latest research, drugs such as Ranitidine, & other h2 blockers can cause dementia. now I`m wondering if it`s too late to stop using them.

Who knows! They change their minds on things almost daily.

I take cod liver oil supplements which, as we were told decades ago is good for us as kids and adults, except lately 'research' has allegedly found a link with omega 3 (cod liver oil) and prostate cancer!

Next week they'll announce sitting on a wooden chair gives you arthritis in your knees!!!!!!!!

Hello

How old are you ??

Hello

You started these medications when you were fifty and you did not take them at a consistent rate, if you are uncertain it is always best to see your GP. I am sixty five and I was in a panic because of the medications I had taken from my late thirties. My memory was crap and they did the full list of tests, including a scan of the brain., At that time I must have been in my late/mid 40/50s and all they could see was damage that resembles a spiders nest, with fine blood veins throughout my brain, some of these are supposed to become blocked and reduce the flow of blood. Personally I feel that I forget things and even I become absent minded .

We all need to accept the old brain cells start to die, that is part of life, personally I have been taken Opiate medications and NSID tablets for my Psoriatic Arthritis and plaques form in the brain and that is normal.

If you are really worried, your GP will arrange for tests to put your mind at rest, personally at this time I will just keep an eye upon it and if it gets worse I will approach my GP once more

Although I take an extensive list of medications and my concentration and memory are poor that, at this time does not stop me from having an active mental life where I do voluntary work and represent my PPG at my GP Surgery with Healthwatch, the CCG and the NHS so all I can say is take an action that will put your mind at rest

Good Luck
