Does anybody know if anxiety can cause gum and tooth tingling, itchiness and numbness? I've had it for a couple hours now and I've been really freaked out. It's not a terrible pain, it goes away when I'm not thinking about it and comes back when I do think about it. I can feel it in my gum going through a nerve and up to the tip of my ear. It's manageable but really bothering me and I'm wondering if I should get it checked out? Went to the dentist a month ago, he said my teeth were perfectly healthy. Also went to my doctor for blood work and EKG about three weeks ago, all those came back normal too, but he said that I have compressed nerves in my neck and shoulders...could this be a factor perhaps? Should I be concerned or is this just my anxiety bothering me or should I go back to my doctor? Also I'm pretty freaked out because my resting heart rate is typically 64 beats per minute and today it's 75...

Hiya, I sometimes get the same problems with numbness and tingling in my gums. I get a lot of tension headaches from anxiety. Have you noticed yourself clenching your teeth at all recently? I seem to get these feelings after I have clenched my teeth for a while! If these symptoms have only just started your dentist may not have seen any issue or damage. When your feeling stressed or anxious maybe see if you notice yourself clenching your teeth? I also know nerve pain is not nice to put up with but I don't know a lot about how that stuff works! As for your pulse rate the rate it is at at 75 is perfectly fine, if you are feeling anxious and also if you have pain or feel uncomfortable your heart rate can pick up a bit. If you are still worried, and you keep getting the sensation for a few days on and off there's no harm going back to the doctors or dentist to get another check and see what they think. It may just help ease your anxiety levels even if they find nothing wrong. I hope this helps
Yes I do clench my jaw often. I also suffer from tension headaches. I tried to massage it out but that made me more anxious when it didn't work Because typically massage works for me. Thanks for your help, you put my mind at ease
It doesn't sound like a nice sensation to be stuck with at all, I can understand why you would get anxious when massage didn't work, it usually helps me out too so can imagine it would be horrible if that did not work! hope that it goes away soon for you
This happens to me also! I grind my teeth at night and am constantly catching myself clenching my jar through oit the day. Which in return i get head aches and jaw aches from. The jaw sensation then moves to the side of my face kind of too. Its just anxiety i would say. Hope that makes you feel alittle better? Good luck!
I have tooth and jaw issues at the minute but it's is not down to anxiety. Like you it is less noticeable if I am busy/bit thinking about it. I would go to your dentist or doc just to be on the safe side. My resting heart rate is always between 69 and 78, although yours is higher than normal, it is well within the normal range for a resting heart rate. It's probably higher because your worrying.
