How long does it take for Citalopram to work

Been on them for 9 days was wondering how long they take to kick in as experiencing bad anxiety n panick attacks xx

Hey, I have been on citalopram for 13 days now and I have been having a very bad time with increased anxiety and very dark thoughts. I asked the crisis team about it and they said quite often the symptoms of depression/anxiety will worsen while the tablets get up to the right levels in your blood, but they should settle within 3 weeks. I found almost no comfort in this, but at least there is a timeframe in which Im testing for improvement, and then ill think again. I am not finding it easy at all but hopefully we will both see an improvement soon and if you feel that another 2 weeks is too long then go and see your GP, i find mine really helpful just for discussing options with me so I feel like im making an effort too lol! Keep posting, I hope you have found a wee bit of peace in the last hour xx

Hi bananabread, have things started to settle yet-i find it so wishy washy when they say that especially as many people on other sites post saying apart from a few side effects they just start to improve! X

When I first started taking citalopram I had side effects for a couple of weeks, took 4-6 weeks for them to settle down

Hi louisemarie how are you getting on now? Im on day 4 of cit after switching from sertraline as they gave me bad thoughts and more depressiin but feel dreadful and just wish I would feel better

Bananabread hi just wanted to let you know that it takes a few weeks before the Citalopram actually takes effect. You will eventually reap the benefits if you can persist.

I have been on mine for nearly a year and i swear that these have helped me to cope and be more confident.
