Hi there, since I was 19 yrs old and I am ... - Anxiety Support
Hi there, since I was 19 yrs old and I am now 68 have have suffered ocular migraines but over the last 12months because of my anxiety I have
Hi Maggie
I suffer with anxiety have done since I was 16 it was a few years before that when I experienced my first migraine
By the time I reached 18 I was having migraines maybe 4 times a year as you describe with the blind spot & zig zag but after I get a thumping headache
Then 6 years ago as I went into the change I started getting migraines once a month blind spot & zig zags with a thumping headache lasting up to 3 days & then as soon as that stops I have been known to get the aura starting again , its nearly drove me mad & certainly not helped my anxiety !
I did go & see a neurologist & they couldn't find on examination anything wrong , I am not brave enough to go for a brain scan though but still they put it down to hormone changes as women can suffer more migraines when going through the change
I can time mine with the calender when the next one is due if I mark of every 4 weeks so this does seem to indicate that it is hormones & I do no my anxiety will be contributing as well
Have you been & seen your GP about them , I would even if to give you peace of mind
If you go on the directory for communities on here there is one for migraines which you may get a lot of useful information from
Are you getting any treatment for your anxiety ?
If they are anxiety related & you get your anxiety under control then hopefully the migraines will improve
Keep talking on here it really does help to talk to talk to others who know exactly how you feel

I've had exactly the same as you Maggie since I was in my late teens - and that was some years ago now!
Hi Maggie,
I get migraines too and occasionally I get the visual disturbance without the headache. I can live with the headache but I am scared rigid by the aura even though I know what it is.
A few years ago I had to see an eye specialist about a blind spot in my vision ~ nothing to do with migraines and everything to do with out of control Health Anxiety. One of the things he told me, in his effort to reassure me as I clung to the ceiling, was that as you get older it is common for migraine suffers to get the visual symptoms but not the headache. I'm sure he told me why this is but I can't remember that part.
I hope you find this reassuring ~ having migraines with anxiety is such an awful combination
Best Wishes
