What if Anxiety goes untreated?

What are the possible long-term effects of untreated (undertreated) anxiety? xxx

it gets stronger anxiety starts to get more in the way for me it feels like anxiety is tacking over my thinking its really not good the more u live it the worse it will get xx

It can bring on physical symptom and you will feel tired, lack concentration and your quality of life will begin to suffer

Hi Lova

There is no long term damage that anxiety causes all it does it makes you slip deeper into the condition and cut off more of the life you once had. also you learn avoidance behavoir to avoid things that make you anxiety worse, but in the long term this is making you slip deeper into the condition. remember this saying with anxiety 'You wont get better unless you stop trying to get better' the more you try and force it away the longer it will stick around. I'm basically saying give up the fight with it and live along side it for a bit, make friends with anxiety and show it you dont fear it, at the end of the day its fear that keeps anxiety alive hence why people slip deeper into the condition. I cant take credit for this information since ive learnt this from paul david who knows a lot about anxiety and has recovered after suffering for 10 years, by reading his website I went and purchased his book and its the only way in my eyes for recovering from anxiety. Theres a lot og people who have left messages about his site and books that have gone onto full recovery. give his website a look up, just google search - Anxiety no more - his website is all free and he doesnt force the purchase of his book or app. I hope it helps and give the site a good look over! hope this helps you

Thank you very much for all the support, you've been really helpful. i've always wanted to be kinda perfect in every way. I got a scholarship to study in one of russel group universities, can dance play the guitar, i train every single day in the gym and know 5 languages. I used to think i was really pretty and people were always like oh are you a model and stuff. But this time i ruined my face with a bad permanent make up and now i'm losing everything i've achieved. I don't enjoy anything and seem so self-obsessed. So afraid of going out and losing my friends slowly. Have got the most terrible insomnia. Don't know how to help myself. Still can't accept what i look like right now. It doesn't seem to get better.

You might think im insane but i named my anxiety Rob :) and when it gets uncontrollable i start talking to him sometimes it helps :) lol xxx

haha rob thats cracked me! what ever makes anxiety easier is good in my books so carry on :)

For the insomnia side i find not trying to force yourself asleep makes you fall asleep quicker, like I said before when we force anything with anxiety it gets worse and then you get more frustrated and hence why the insomnia is around. I guessing you have thoughts running through your mind all the time you hit the pillow, also ringing ears? keeping your mind occupied is a big thing with over coming anxiety as this is what gets rid of the hormones your body releases during anxiety and burns them away and also creates serotonin which is the feel good hormone. but if your letting anxiety get on top when you are not keeping yourself busy this is where it still gets to you as your letting it come again and fighting it! and yeah have a good look at the website, its the only site you will every need after you have full understood the condition it helps a lot. as they say knowledge is power and judging by what you know you should know that saying haha

Sounds like a good book it's like the nutshell of change every thing and nothing will happen or do nothing and you will get better but if your thoughts have put you into a state or indeed actions surly you must therefore change ?

Wow you sound like a very talented lady! You can do a lot more than I can or ever will. Pat yourself on the back for your achievements.

Unfortunately we live in a world which is obsessed with appearance so I do understand what you are saying. But your friends don't love you for your looks but for you. Even if you are feeling bad about yourself, giving off more positive vibes like a smile will make people like you more and make you feel better. The trouble with obsession is that it feeds on itself. The worse you feel the will and act the more negative reactions you will get. so its a vicious circle. Try not to be perfect. No one likes perfect people - they are a pain in the ass!

You are absolutely right but for me it got to that point where i can't watch movies ot tv shows because i can't stand watching those good looking girls, it hurts me so much. I'm living in a hell. I realize that my friends and fmily will love me no matter what but it doesn't help. Everyday i feel worse with mornings being the most terrible. I just hate myself for one small mistake that i made.

I asked the same question of a few doctors, and clinical psychologists. My experience without medication was that I delved deep into total insomnia and was almost sectioned.

My clinical psychologist at the time, said that untreated , it would likely consume me entirely.

Physically you will likely be fine, but mentally , it knocked me massively.

I am always worried about being back in abject madness!

How long have you had it? Consumed entirely is exactly how i feel. I'm feeling exhausted and so close to break down. I'm so desperate that I'd do anything to feel better.

I thought so actually. I think mental peace is the most important thing in the world. Dis your psychologist help you then? Thanks for you comment take care. Xxx

Mine started in 1999. I snapped, just woke up one morning and everything was too much.

Since then I've researched the condition at length, seeking help from various so called professionals.

My various psychologists have never really had any firm answers, but one did agree that there was no evolutionary benefit to anxiety/depression, and thus it must be a defect of the mind/brain, which has not developed to aid us, but quite clearly will only mess you up if untreated. If I listened to my feelings when anxious, and took no meds, I would retract from society, quit my job, be a jabbering wreck and would have jumped under a train!

My advice to you. Tyr paying for the Linden Method. It's about the best concise approach to anxiety/depression, costing £80 for the book and phone help for 1 year. One caveat, I disagree with Charles Linden on his medication advice.

I took Prozac and beta blockers for 14 years,

I'm now swapped onto 50 mg Sertraline, and 9 weeks in.

Side effects less, and feeling quite robust currently!

I started the Sertraline swap on the day my son was born, July 4th, to mark the change, hoping it would be a positive transition.

I think that only antidepressants could help me but at the same time i'm terrified by possible side effects. I can't let my anxiety control me I've got my last year in uni and i really don't want to screw it up. Your comments are so helpful by the way. Thank you very much! Hope one day we will all recover and be able to live normal lives!

Yep 1999 I was 2nd year of a 4 year master of engineering , a really tough degree!

I cracked , stress from degree, being away from home, drinking too much.

SSRI's don't really have many side effects, my Sertraline is amazing stuff.

It varies person to person though.
