Feeling Hopless

I have been out of a job since March of 2024. Everyone at my job was laid off except for a small group in which I was apart of. I was so used to having 60+ coworkers but then it was just the five of us. I got so depressed at my job because my coworkers were what made it tolerable and fun. So I volunteerily quit my job. My husband was very supportive and has been supporting me since then and he doesn’t need me to get a job. However I am feeling so sad at home now. I feel that I have run out of things to do, I don’t have any children so my days just consist of waking up, prepping my husband for work, and then doing some household chores till he gets home. I feel almost like Patrick waiting for SpongeBob to get off of work. I have exhausted hobbies that I once enjoyed; knitting, gaming, listening to podcasts, etc. Nowadays I do not find enjoyment in doing any of those things. I don’t even have motivation to hang out with friends. I find myself constantly just sitting there waiting for the time to go by. Waiting for the day to go by, just to do it all over again the next day. So on and so forth, I have been doing this for months and it makes me feel so hopeless. I feel I don’t have a purpose anymore and I don’t know why I am here. I constantly ask myself that question; why am I here? Does anyone else ever feel this way? And if you are a housewife with no kids, can you give me some insight on what you do all day besides household chores?

You know what, I really haven’t thought about that. That’s a really good idea that I am willing to try. What do you do when you volunteer at the hospital if you don’t mind sharing? Did you have experience working in the medical field prior? Asking not necessarily because I will 100% volunteer at a hospital but I want to keep my options open. Thank you for this wonderful idea.

Hi I do hospital radio and I go round the wards to the patients and ask if they would like me to set up the radio for them. And if they would like a request played.i find the older patients like a chat and I end up sitting with them.i love hearing their stories of when they were growing up.they have other volunteer work like in the little shop in the hospital. I also go to my freinds dog 3 times a week while she at work. I love animals so I have thought I might see about voluntary work at animal rescue.x

I agree with Skyp to look at volunteering. Maybe look for organizations that are doing something that you are interested in or that can use your skills and expertise. I've found it very rewarding volunteering at our local Habitat for Humanity, a new horticultural center here and a wildlife rescue organization.
