Irritability

Have been struggling with irritability for quite some time....

Looking for anyone else who struggles with the same and what have you found has helped work for you???

Medication? Exercise? Special diet???

I have very little motivation. I'm crabby all the time.

Going to have my labs checked for vitamin D, thyroid, iron levels etc.

I don't feel like myself. I feel annoyed by everything & everyone!!!

I'm dying to know why my brain is like this and what I can do to make it improve.

Could the Effexor medication be making it worse???

I struggle with irritability from time to time, are you working multiple jobs or taking on a lot on your plate? Do people around you (like at work) ask too much of you but want you to say yes, and it makes you burnt out? Those are things that easily annoy me, when my boundaries and limits get taken advantage of! Not that I’m trying to play a victim, but it’s hard to see until you step back!

What also helps me is self care…sleep, treating myself or doing something nice for myself.💙I know some medications can have those side effects. Did the doctor mention them before giving you the medicine??

Yes - a lot on my plate. I work full-time and have 2 very high energy, dependent on me children . Ages 5 and 8.

My work schedule is inconsistent. Sometimes I start very early & am unable to get enough sleep.

I think the constant shifting of days & start times is affecting my overall health & well-being. 😣

I also find my children to be very overstimulating & overwhelming to be around. I am uncertain but I think they may have ADHD.

I too may have ADHD - making it very hard to focus & juggle tasks.

I constantly feel overwhelmed.

How long have you been taking Effexor? Effexor can absolutely affect mood in the first few months until your body is use to it.I ended up having increased anxiety and more some mood swings, but it was the most effective treatment for my depression, so we added Lamotrigine.

I was prescribed & tried lamotrigrine too. My nails started detaching from the nail bed 😳That one was not going to work for me!

I have been on it now for atleast 6 months, maybe more. I lost track... I tried doing 150 mg but it was too high. My restless legs acted up & I couldn't sleep!!!

So I now take 112.5 mg. (A 75 plus 37.5 capsule)

Restless legs still occurs but not daily like with 150mg.

My husband reports my irritability has been worse for months. . . 🤷🏼‍♀️

Before that, I was on sertraline. But depression seemed to be getting worse, loss of focus, and I gained weight. So I decided to switch to effexor which can apparently help some people with ADHD . . .

I'm sorry. I have had problems with depression and for me, irritability was mostly a symptom of depression. Taking Effexor never worsened my symptoms, but people can react differently to medications. Mostly, what has helped me with my symptoms and overall emotional well-being is therapy/counseling, which I got regularly for many years. I hope that you are able to inform your doctor about your experiences and symptoms and that he can give you help.
