Should I be feeling this way?

Hi everyone.

I guess my story is not too bad compared to others. I’m just going to write a list of my life events and see where it takes us.

My parents both died of cancer. My mum when I was 16 and my dad when I was 18.

I got married and had my brilliant son. He was 9 weeks early. The pressure came between my then husband and I and we ended up getting divorced.

I had a hysterectomy at 33

3 years ago I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. I had 9 biopsies and I was decided I would have surgery. I lost my right nipple and 900g of tissue. I then found out they’d mixed up my biopsy and I’d never had cancer. I then had a reduction on the left.

This had really affected my mental state and my desire to involve myself in life.

I have various medical issues including lymphoedema caused my the surgery.

I really want to find some drive to sort this out.

Sorry this is soooo long x

Hi,There is never a need to apologise for a post in this forum. We honour you for sharing your lived experience.

You certainly have had quite a few big health and personal events in your life to deal with. These events test our mental and physical coping resources.

I feel that we cannot do anything about the past although in combination it may have impact on what's happening today.

We need to take care of ourselves by reserving time to get into a good place in our head, maybe with the help of a CBT therapist or learning from a psychologist who understands the link between heath conditions and a patient perspective.

It's possible to get your mojo back but it takes time and self care.

P.S. I am struggling myself at the moment as I do battle with both depression and AIHA.

Hi there,There is no right or wrong way to feel. You feel what you feel. Please don't compare your story to that of others. Every person's story is equally as important.

I'm sorry for what you've gone through.

no need to apologize for how you feel or sharing your story! Sometimes it can be helpful to just get it all out there. Think of it as healing for yourself.

Also, you are such a strong human for going through all of that. You’re still standing and still fighting. You should celebrate that. It doesn’t matter if someone has it worse or not, trauma is trauma. It deserves to be recognized so you can heal and move forward.

I’m also new here and this place has been helpful for me to just get out my thoughts without judgement and I hope you can find that too!
