Do you think that the state pension age should be lowered?

Now I'm fortunate to receive a armed forces pension and obviously my body has taken a pounding over the years, not just from being in the services, but also from the manual labour work environment, it seems strange you can serve your country and receive a pension at 60 , but most working individuals will have to carry on until they are 67, and possibly more increases on the horizon, I literally feel ready for the knackers yard most mornings and that's besides other ailments, it's quite possible they'll be no state pension in years to come and you'll be working towards your coffin if you make it that far. It's a strange system set up, and yet those in power probably don't understand what a hard day's grafting involves, and yet they have a relatively easy life demanding how you should live yours, human beings have a " shelf" life and are pushing the boundaries against staying fit and healthy until your probably 70 on the current forecast towards retirement, my granddad never received his pension, he died at 63, yes maybe life " expectancy " is longer but it still doesn't stop the various health conditions you could end up with , I'm sure they'll be civil servants juggling these figures, but the way living standards have dropped and even life expectancy has fallen lower are you prepared to take action,so you don't end up with a few family members around saying a few prayers once youve left this planet, and a booze up at the end of the day 🫣

I am thinking in my case I will work as long as I can. I get lazy at home and get depressed with being at home. Not for me but I am not sure how long I will be able to work. You have to be careful with health and mental health and I am just going to keep going for now. I am active in job and job suits me and I have made some good friends. Ok, I keep it professional and not so much private chat but it keeps me happy. I am better off financially in job as well and if my boss will allow me to stay on I will. Depends all on what you can do though

Yes, it all depends on the job I suppose and of course staying healthy , unfortunately if you end up with psychical pain this impacts your mental wellbeing, as I was exceptionally physically fit in my younger days and thought I was invincible, if you have to rely on working for financial reasons I think this adds more pressure in trying to avoid getting old, but we can't stop father time and the body let's you know it's time to take things easier, but I see your point 😊

I've got sciatica and disc/lower back problems that advise swimming, yoga and walking

So I need to keep going on as I am with plenty of walking and I find kneeling really helps with some bending

So far job keeping me from being worse off

My job saving me xxxx

The human body is like a car, and eventually certain parts stop working, wear and tear sets in, and you can't always replace every joint, or stop the aging process, there's a saying you can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink it, and using tablets to mask pain isn't the best way to cope with the physical pain, but I'm glad you've got an exercise programme to keep you going, best of luck.

The system is weighted against us, especially nowadays. I was lucky enough to get my pension at 60, I just squeaked in.

I'm better off than a lot of folks, I get my OAP plus a proportion of my late husband's one. I'm not in the Pension Credit category. I also get DLA, (Too old for PIP) I'm actually older than the NHS.

I agree the Age requirement of pensions is going up, not just in the UK, but all over Europe. I am worried however about the amounts that people will be getting when they get to Pension Age, hoping that folk will have enough to live on, it certainly isn't easy.

Cheers, Midori
