Are you worried about embracing new technology with all those scammers around?

It's a big problem and I like to think I'm doing OK regarding the various con artists out there, you have to have your wits about you, it seems the endless phoney telephone calls are an easy way to try and relive your pockets of money, and these " people " have no conscience, unscrupulous and have no emotion when conning people, and the erosion of money being forced upon us via the government and banking institutions isn't going to help.

We are treading a slippery path, and the phasing out of money in favour of digital currency is a worrying thought, computers crash , and supposedly never make mistakes, and having AI will only cause more ways to scam people, the younger generation are quite happily tapping their phones to make payments, our local taxi firm " offers " you to pay by card, yep 50 p for this transaction and a company makes even more money for this privilege.

Perhaps the whole digital currency thing should be delayed until all us older folk have popped our clogs, maybe 20 years or so as I'm sure most people aren't totally clued up with some technology , they say everything is to make our lives " easier " but in realty we are loosing our identity, facial recognition, biometric passports, data harvesting is the new " Gold " they'll be lack of human contact with official departments , even the DWP are using certain technologies to see if you are entitled to claim, and the algorithms are failing individuals already, the government will " sell" you the digital currency as a be all and end all to improving your life,I've managed my life so far without any technology as such, but i doubt it will solve our problems, but will make certain companies and individuals extremely rich , but you won't be able to see them as they'll be hidden from human eyes, but will you understand why we are being ushered into this world of secrecy , no because the computer says no !

Hi, I don’t think we have any choice, we either go with it or get left behind, remember when we changed to decimal Currency in the 70’s , it took us all a while to get used to it, though I’m still on feet and inches , I can’t get used to metric LOL 😳

Yes but in them days I don't remember as many scammers around, this isn't just about money it's your identity, and nothing will be private, remember the days when you spoke to the bank manager, it was just you and him/ her, I like to have privacy and even patients details have been leaked or companies are having to keep tabs on our so called private information, and when a computer crashes the world comes to a standstill, like I've said data is what all companies are after, but they get it for free and use it against us and used for their benefit.

Yes I'm downsizing at present, retired and treated like 💩if you don't wise up and follow AI and its glorious ways😤🤮🤮 I was reading some of my mother's comments about banking, computers, etc, that was in 2002, she could see then especially as far as banking was going even then, and the way she was being forced into, press this, then press that, a push button society! As you say the older generation are suffering most, you don't then your not in fashion with the up to date "free" society! They don't see if AI makes a miniscule wee error, it could go down the entire system then.... [its happened already, I think just via error, a possible thing to come!], but someone in theory could close the "internet" for about three weeks, SHOCK and horror big time😈😈 across the whole world, as you said Cb1963!!! I don't like smartphones, but not to use them could "reduce your security" getting club-cards, etc, various sites again "for greater security" you HAVE to give them your phone number [I only have a 'call & text' phone' so don't "appreciate" the useless little aps that suddenly would appear if I had a 'smartphone, i-phone etc, so up them! [lost that emoji?]

Yes we are sold every idea under the sun to dupe us into believing we need the various technology to survive, I limit myself to just my phone, but thats also wormed its way into my life, and everything we do and say is monitored already, I didn't download the government warnings app, the one for bad weather alerts, I look out of the window or watch the weather forecast on television, that's the other thing that's getting looked at in the future, the free view channels will disappear as we know it, but they ( government) hasn't decided how to make people pay for this service, it will be interesting to see how this process goes 🤔

The best weather 'report' I had was from of my Doro call & text phones, but it's battery life was lousy, TV weather always take with a pinch of salt, especially the BBC, long range forecast is dreadful🙄

Yes i know, the BBC had what we call the landlady's weather forecast to say it was sunny in Blackpool but it was actually chucking it down 🤣

Very good post ! .. really makes you think doesn't it ,technology sure is changing fast and in many ways , im no way tech savvy ,stick to my phone and laptop, I am hesitant in to even opening emails these days due to all the hidden scams that could lurk behind, I even have a "Dark Web " detector that can track if my emails and any passwords have been hacked in to , hence why I change my passwords Very frequently.. , the way things are going I dread to think what our next generation will have to endure

Even using your card on a plane has now become a way of buying any duty free etc, its crazy flying at 35,000 feet you can do a transaction, but I believe it doesn't authorise payment until you land and the card reader is able to connect to the relevant masts 😏

Millie09 profile image
Millie09 in reply to Cb1963

Yes thats another thing , I used my card on my recent flight in June, there's no way that being 36000 feet in the air it can authorise your card , I agree with you , it obviously doesn't authorise until on terra firma lol

Well in the olden days and flying around the world I suppose I'd have drunk my duty free before the plane had even landed 🤣

On Monday we were at the chippy and a chap used a debit card to pay for a can of energy drink which I didn't feel was warranted!

This my 13th laptop so am aware of most of the 💩which is served to me on those things🤞 One of my sister's is so gullible as far as AI is concerned, takes what 'served' to her for granted, she is helping me with my downsizing, I'm tearing my hair out, the way she trusts her horrible smartphone [really got a hate thing about those technological rectangular gormless machines, the way 'people' take them for granted (they probably know how many hairs you have up your left nostril👃?)] I definitely believe something really bad will come because of using technology like that🤯

I dunno why they call it the " mile high club" as its equivalent to over 6 miles at that ratio of 35,000 feet 😳 🤣

Yes it concerns me although i now prefer to be left behind, I refuse to conform to what is now considered the norm, I don't even use a mobile phone, i keep one topped up for emergency. And i certainly don't want all my personal information on a phone, ie bank accounts, social media, emails. NO thanks.

I remember back in the 80s when I was growing up when lots of people didn't even have a landline phone in the house!

I remember the days when the mobile phones were massive!

How are you and the dogs doing?

Baby sends her regards!

It's a day in Newport today as planned and an interview for a pharmacy job at 11am and we have decided to go into town after the interview for friendship and for lunch.

My father in law said to me after I had said about getting upset over a Valentines weekend getting spoilt back in 2019

when the line Manager wouldn't let me have a couple of hours off on the Thursday and was unfair over it how I was upset because my marriage and friendships are things that are important to me personally which is right!

If I was manager I would have given the extra hours and said work them back when you come back to work and if they had said that to me I wouldn't have had a problem!

Those offices have moved yet again back to the city centre as they got evicted from the ones in North Cardiff!

Looking back I feel by accident when that place wouldn't promote me or let me work my way up they did me a favour as I wouldn't have been happy there and I feel that place was a life lesson in how what you think you need and want isn't always what's right for you personally and I do feel when things are for me they won't go by me!

Yesterday I was due to go for a job interview for 10am at the infirmary and there was a girl sat waiting when I was and I hadn't thought anything of it thinking she was seeing the doctor and no she wasn't the poor girl had been due for an interview at 9.30 but wasn't being seen until 10.10 which meant it would be 11 when I was seen and I felt really cross and cancelled the interview and got the bus to swimming and had an early swim instead and thanked my lucky stars I'm not living in the inner city anymore and not having got the houses I applied for there as I wouldn't have been happy there and that power grab yesterday morning confirms I made the right decision to leave the health service back in 2019!

Their management were never very nice but they have gone from bad to worse and yesterday that was ridiculous and I don't know if the girl waiting did get seen after or did she use her sense and walk out?
