Lexapro poopot and other random thoughts

My first post...a bit of a ramble..Hello all!

Well a couple of years ago one of my big anxiety triggers came up...and lexapro couldn't deal with it and stopped working. I had been on it for 9 years...so I assumed it pooped out or ran away.

We did a gene test and tried viibryd...and it was terrible. That test was made by a madman. Now my psychiatrist just wants to do only psychotherapy with a sprinkling of benzos. He thinks all ssris are the same, so he won't try another. He just wants me to endure anxiety and get off benzos....and his therapy will solve the problems. Does that seem reasonable? Not to me.

The problem is...his therapy doesn't help..he just doesn't know how to work with my brain. I mean I need to get his ideas to sink in...be believable...it is an art form.

He is like the kid who thinks he knows the answer to a test but doesn't know how to teach the solution to other kids.

I really want to address these triggers ...and I need a really good brain detective.

Hi Mantid,Not all psychiatrists are good at providing talk therapy and are often time poor.

From my experience, now would be a good time to consider seeing a psychologist whose focus is spending 50 minutes with you to understand & help you reach your goals in therapy.

Consider medication as your safety raft steered by the doctor.

Thanks. I wish there was a way, other than trial and error, to find a good therapist match. I want someone smart, intuitive, patient, and full of plans and ideas

Hi Mantid, Even the best of the best specialists can't explicitly give you all the things

you need to get better. They are there to guide you to a different path. What you do with

that guidance really comes back to you in the end. Over the years, I've listened to the

advice of many professionals and yet in the end, it was myself in what the answer was

for me and me alone.

Don't forget, one size doesn't really fit all. As good as a psychiatrist may be in monitoring

medication, sometimes they are not the best for therapy. Their mind is on that prescription

pad and how they can give their patient a quick fix. Once again, this is my experience.

Your mind is like a storage box filled with all that is told you through life. Now it is up to

us to take those facts that pertain to us and make them work. I once wrote a Post on this

Forum "Life is like a Puzzle" and it is. No one can put the pieces together to complete the

puzzle but you.

I hope you find the pieces that are missing in your life. With the help from YouTube and

our community, you may just find your "aha moment" as I did. Since then, everything I

heard in therapy became clearer as I made them work for myself. Good Luck dear :) xx

Thank you very much agora1. I'm coming around to the realization that I have to figure it out and do the healing. I guess I had unrealistic expectations of doctors and therapists as mental Sherlock Holmeses.

What was your aha moment?

Less than helpful?

I understand your problem - in my case, an antidepressant (one of many!) worked for three months before I relapsed. Do you think your current Dr would refer you to someone else? Psychiatrists are not “one size fits all”., so you might ask around your friend/family group for suggestions or seek help from your local public health dept. I’d also suggest asking about a psychopharmacologist - they can be very helpful in figuring out what might work for you. The key word here is “you”. If a new therapist doesn’t strike you as someone you’re comfortable with, that’s a huge clue as to how helpful they might be. I wish you huge good luck in your search, and remember to trust yourself. I know this isn’t easy - but you’ll be so happy when you find your new partner and can work together to improve your health.

I am not sure if he would. I can ask. He seems skeptical of antidepressents for me which I find ironic. I had good luck on lexapro but it stopped...not much on prozac...vibryd was awful.serzone and Celexa had extreme dizziness. Also, he is very proud of his theories and convinced they are it. They are Not bad ideas...he just has no plan on implementing them. (Shame for example). Just talk every week and chip away slowly. So, I have to work up the courage to talk to him...that is on me.

You know a psychpharmacologist is a brilliant idea. Thank you for that!!!

Other than that...I am really fascinated by coherence therapy...too bad there are not many practitioners.

I found that meds route was hard for me and that doctors did not help me that much so I went down a different route. I chose to use this forum to talk through things because peers are easier to work through the crazy.

Also, I use CBD oil to get through the worst of my anxiety.....it takes the edge off of the anxiety so that I can function.

Also trying a different therapist would be a good choice....sometimes you just need to find a better fit.

Ride your path and know that there are people here that can help you talk through anything.
