Could the rise in cortisol in your body during the early hours of the morning be impacting your anxiety levels. I think it does mine. I believe it starts rising at 4 or 5 am in our bodies and peaks around 8 or 9 am. (Someone else on here, probably knows more info than I do.)
I don't know how long Lorazepam stays in the body at peak effect, but I am thinking it is shorter lasting, if it is, you are probably taking it at the best time.
Also, do you limit caffeine in the morning?
Maybe worth having this conversation with your GP.
Thank you, Phoenix1992, for a very helpful answer. Yes, I had considered my Cortisol levels and started taking Adrenal Cortex (pig's cortex) supplement, in the morning, a few months ago. I also take an Adrenal Cortisol supplement (contains Potassium 33mg; Zinc 5mg: Manganese 1mg; Chromium 100ug; Yest 200mg; Ashwagandha 200mg; Camu Camu 55mg; Holy Basil 30mg; Rhodiola 25mg; Ginseng 25mg). This supplement is described as an adaptogen. I take it at night, but it doesn't seem to adapt my Cortisol levels in the morning. It may even make me more groggy, but I can't be certain.
Have you found anything that works?
You're probably right about Lorazepam. It knocks my anxiety on the head but also adds to my dizziness.
I have one cup of tea and one of coffee. I need them to help me through my comatose state most mornings.
I know nothing about Cortisol supplements, I am going to have to go and have a look at that.
My knowledge around cortisol is mainly around working nights, anxiety and needing high doses or steroids for asthma at times. So levels were tested to ensure they were ok. (to check for adrenal insufficiency.)
Are the supplements ok with your prescribed meds? And is there a best time to take them with regard to the time of day for cortisol levels?
I am the same regarding tea, I like my first 2 drinks of the day to be tea and have not found a decaffeinated version! So, if my anxieties climb, I remind myself it could be caffeine and high cortisol levels at that time. I find decaf coffee as lovely as normal, but will add in a real one, if I need it before lunch. It takes a while to ride out the caffeine/cortisol extra anxiety, but going without my 2 cups of tea is a no no 🤣 Typically english... I am on venlafaxine twice a day now and that has helped my morning anxiety loads.
I have never taken Lorazepam, (I am on Diazepam when needed) but I am guessing you are taking opposing forces with Lorazepam, caffeine and natural cortisol. And then any effects of your supplements and your meds the night before.
Are you able to space your tea and coffee a bit?
Added later.....
I see your supplements reduce cortisol, so I understand you taking them in the morning.
Some of the supplement lists mention magnesium, have you tried this? I used to take it, but stopped when put on venlafaxine. It is a great relaxer (if that is a word? lol) I must check if I can reintroduce it. I used to take magnesium citrate, but there is a better one. (more expensive.)
yes, my psychiatrist has confirmed that my supplements are fine with my meds.
My symptoms in the morning could be a symptom of low cortisol as well as high. I see an endocrinologist occasionally and he recommended Adrenal Cortex to raise my Cortisol levels. Trouble is that it hasn't made things better or worse.
Yes, I take Magnesium morning and night and did feel a slight improvement.
I do take my dose at least 30 minutes before I get up, but you have made me think about splitting the dose to 0.5mg on getting up and then the other 0.5mg later in the day.
