hey there, i’m literally reading this while I’m in bed struggling to sleep myself. It is extremely normal not to be able to sleep when you have sudden bouts of intense anxiety. in my case, it stems from some changes I’m going through with my life right now. I’m moving homes in a couple of days and when you are prone to anxiety, any big change is always difficult to adjust to and you always go through a rough patch.
I do have ways of dealing with my anxiety i have tried over the years otherwise and help improve my sleep hygiene. In my experience, there are certain things you can do to help you sleep with little effort and get a good 7-8 hour snooze without any medication or sleep aid. I used to take these and they always left me feeling groggy and hazy the next day which is never good.
1. Try taking a warm bath or a shower before you go to bed.it really helps soothe my nerves.
2. Read something inspirational and preferably not on your phone or tablet. I always find that if I’m reading something that helps me deal with my mental health from an actual physical book, It actually helps me feel better and sleep faster instead of staring at a digital screen.
3. Try magnesium oil sprays. Magnesium is medically known to help soothe your nerves and there are so many different magnesium oil sprays available on Amazon for you to apply on certain pressure points on your body such as your ears, armpits, and neck.
4. On days when I just need to calm my mind after a lot of chaos. I usually do a sound bath ritual as the vibrations are therapeutic and does help your circadian rhythm.
5. Invest in a dim warm purple or red bed light as it is known to help induce sleep.
6. You could also buy a white noise machine on Amazon. They are quite inexpensive and does help you fall asleep.
If you are waking up because of your night terrors or panic attacks, it may be symptomatic of an underlying issue that you may want to seek treatment for. I recommend seeing a psychiatrist about this and discussing it with your therapist as well. Hope this helps 😴
Thank you so much for all your advice! I am about to have blood tests and my yearly physical. Also will see a Neurologist. Wondering if I have something wrong medically is also adding to my anxiety. Hope I get some answers soon!
Hello, I feel that I relate to you lately. I've been trying to sleep but it feels like I have to be reminded of when I had to go through aspiration last year. My body feels constantly stiff since then and it's difficult to adjust, but I always try to make one body scan/zen meditation to slowly let release my body into a better relaxed state. There are helpful visual guided meditation videos on youtube, these usually are 20 to an hour short, you can tap into meditation when energies of stress start to appear. The tapping solution as well I recommend. It's an app that has aid in meditation guides that cover a vast number of helpful guides. In my experience limited screen time before going to sleep also helps. If you spend your time in bed scrolling through your phone, it will weigh and stress on your mind, and interfere with your sleep pattern. Habitually picking up your device to lull you to sleep. Try to spend your energy in a small relaxing stretch/exercise routine before going to bed.
