I am a mom to a beautiful 11 year old and I was just diagnosed with Cancer . My daughter and I are in a different state than my family and I am going to need help with someone staying with me after chemo and surgeries so I asked my mother to come up but our history is very rocky. Although she is very loving she has her own mental health issues and has been abusive to my brothers and I throughout our lives both verbally and physically which she has barely acknowledged. She continues to ruin things ( she told me she hoped me and my unborn child would die ) when she feels slighted ( which is often) or she feels not in control. This is such a vulnerable moment for me but I do need help . Should inask her to come?

Hi welcome aboard sorry to hear about the diagnosis lets hope with the best treatment you can make a full recovery hopefully differences can be put aside now and you get all the support you need and deserve.
What a shock to get that diagnosis! It happened to me, and wasn't sure where to turn as no family lives near me either. As you question whether your mother would be helpful if she agreed to come, I wonder if there are alternatives to family you could consider. Social workers are sometimes involved in the cancer treatment plan, and reaching out to one may offer resources you may not have considered. You are wise now to be planning your recovery after treatment. You are not alone here and please keep us posted.
