Men who sew ! Men have anxieties too.

Recently i saw an ad in my local paper called 'Men who Sew' talking about men meeting up with men in a safe environment to make leather keyrings and suchlike (hence the word Sew) and then to talking about issues that are worrying men.

So with trepidation I duly went, and it was held in this mans shop, and 11 of us turned up.

We all started off learning how to make leather keyrings, but of course i was a bag of nerves and was way behind the others, but eventually I succeeded in making my key ring, and i have to say its not an easy task, you pass a thread between two needles and then overlap until completion.

But then people began to open up about their anxieties and it was quite a revelation to know so many men suffer depression, and I duly joined in and let it all out, well, not all but some.

This went on for about 2 and a half hours and we will be meeting every week until Christmas.

The moral of this story is that men suffer depression too.

It sounds really good, Secrets. Good on you for taking the plunge. It's so satisfying to create something. And great that you have met people to talk to, in a safe environment. Any chance of you sharing a pic of your handiwork 🤔🤗

Well done secrets - that can't have been easy but your persistence and courage paid off. Really pleased for you! Trust you'll be using your key ring?

secrets22, Oh course men have depression too. They are human, they feel emotions,'

I'm glad you found a group to re-focus your mind on something productive as well

as have the chance to clear your mind by talking with other men who understand.

You did good in finding this place. I too, would like to see the key rings.

You do know that some men in prison do crochet and make beautiful wooden

jewelry chests etc. They are sold to the public. I'm proud of you for taking that

step forward in helping yourself heal :) xx

I love this story. We men definitely have emotions and when we talk about them it leads to a more peaceful world.

You did good joining that group. And of course men have depression and I'm one of them. I hate how men have been stereotyped to be tough and strong. It's not right. We're human just like everybody else.

I think a way men beg to talk about their feeling is through humor. It’s not socially acceptable to straight cry about being hurt otherwise he is projected onto as a “little boy.” They tell jokes that have hidden messages of embarrassment and pain that they wrap it in a joke to make it seem like they are just being humorous.

Absolutely men have depression. My son has recently been diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic. He has inherited it from his father's side of the family.

Getting to grips with what he has to do each day is driving him to depression, fingerprick tests, Metformin and endlessly poring over Food packaging labels for carb counts and amounts of sugars, drives us both nuts! He is getting too paranoid about the Carb counts, some carbs are necessary, but he's trying to cut them all out!

Cheers, Midori
