How do I get through waiting on the meds to kick in?

Hi all -

Stupidly decided I needed a med change and the dr decided to take me off lexapro, of which I've been on for years and try out another drug. Ever since being weened off of the lexa pro my anxiety is just all over the place. It's like an all day roller coaster. I'm on day 4 of the new meds, but man it feels like it's taking forever. Anyone gone through something similar? Any advice?

Welcome to the community.

Many of us have been off and on different medications. There is no easy way to wait out the time it takes to start being effective

Use your coping skills as best you can

Best of luck

I didn't have problems coming off of lexapro for some reason. I'm thankful I didn't. I hope the withdrawal feelings go away soon for you my friend.

Thanks. Yeah I don’t know if I’m withdrawing or the new meds haven’t taken over yet. But either way it’s pretty awful. ☹️

May i ask what you switched to?

in reply toTwistedopher

Sure. At first they switched me to Paxil but then got a second opinion and switched me to celexa

It's so frustrating waiting for the meds to kick in when you're feeling badly. Hang in there! I'd write more but I have a cat on my lap who won't stop rubbing against my arms and messing up my typing - haha!

Lol. Thanks for the response though! Yeah it feels like it’ll never hurt easier.

At the moment, keep going with the new med. They can take up to six weeks to kick in and then you should start feeling better.

cheers, Midori

It's like they say in AA: Feelings Aren't Facts. I have a lot of stress in my life right now and I have to keep reminding myself of this. I will get through my episode and so will you.

The waiting for a new med to work can seem like forever. A good six weeks is what is needed time wise. In the meantime surround yourself with supportive people, heed your Doctor's advice and be kind to yourself.
