How long for sertraline to kick in

I’m on day 11 and still feeling very anxious and all my physical anxiety symptoms have got so much worse, I’m scared is this the drug or more. I know it can take a few weeks to work but is it a written rule from day 14 I should feel a little better? I’m worried I may take this drug for 4-6 weeks and see no improvements at all.

The common side effects like nausea and diarrhoea have now settled but not my nerves. I feel so anxious just walking along in my own home thinking something bad will happen.

Please help x

I’m so sorry you are feeling this way. I was on setraline for 3 weeks and then was switched to the generic of celexa and I was only on it for 3 days after taking the Setraline. I felt like I was losing my mind. I had this strange feelings in my head like I was wearing a sweatband around it and was a nervous wreck. I figured out that I was more and more anxious while on the setraline and then 3 days on celexa put me over the top!! I couldn’t take it anymore. My psychiatrist took me off the meds. She gave a prescription for a drug that is called Gabapentin. It’s used for pain and seizures it a Nero blocker. I can take it 2 to 3 times a day. This seems to be working much better then the antidepressant for me. I do know that there are so many medicines out there and they all don’t work for everyone. I hope you start to feel better real soon. I totally know what you are going through. If you want to chat please feel free to.

Thank you for your kind reply it means a lot that you took the time to write to me and tell me about your own experiences. I have been suffering with physical symptoms and side effects of the sertraline have definitely made them all worse! I feel so scared and worry I’m going to die. I don’t know how long I should stick out trying this drug. I’ve never taken antidepressants before and I’m not sure what else to do. Sertraline has made my head feel funny at times and awful worries I don’t know how to help myself x

I’m so sorry you are going through this.. I did feel exactly the same way. I couldn’t stand it another day.! Since I stopped taking it on Friday. My anxiety is still high but no way nearly as high as it was on the Setraline and celexa! The did a number on me!! Good luck and chat with me anytime.

Hi I have been taking sertraline nearly 6 weeks now and started to get the exact same sweat band feeling around forehead it is so horrid! It feels cold. Did yours go quickly after stopping this medication? I feel I’ve got worse on this drug and need to switch :/

Experienced the same reaction. Sertraline is the generic form of Zoloft, and in no way does it provide the same relief of the brand. I've never found any generic as effective as the brand, Unfortunately, the cost of the brand version is so prohibitively expensive, most can't afford to obtain it. Thank you Big Pharma for your continued greed and insensitivity....
