Why are things so difficult?

I want to talk about how people who are depressed like me find the motivation to do things they need to do. Like clean my house or exercise. Even cook a good meal.

Hi

Motivation is a tough one. Depression puts lead weights on our legs.

I gave myself a list and took things in small doses.

Cleaning.... may not get everything done as before so don't put pressure on yourself. Do one room at a time or a section of a room.

Cooking...you can make good healthy meals and still keep the work load down. Prepare throughout the day, get what you can prepped the day before. Don't go too wild, keep it simple.

For me the key was not expecting too much from myself but trying to push a bit.

Some days nothing is possible other than making the bed. That's ok too

Once I was diagnosed with a Major Depression and Anxiety Disorder I had to start accepting my limitations. I can’t do the things I used to be able to do. My self esteem suffered. I went from a multi tasker to a slug. Getting anything accomplished takes a lot of work.

But in the interest of self care, I have to be gentle with myself. I do what I can do, pushing a little. And that has to be enough.

I used to be a human doing. Now I’m a human being.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. Yes, just do what I can and be gentle with myself. It is encouraging to hear from people like you.

hi!

Hope you’re well today.

I make a todo list the night before and use the pomodoro technique in between tasks.

Thanks for your reply. What is the pomodoro technique?

Hello again. I found a link to you:

todoist.com/productivity-me...

You can set the times however you want.

It works for me and also helps me get away from my screen. I usually go analog during breaks: read a book, wash dishes, make banana pancakes (that's a Jack Johnson song... the best uplifting music to make you smile) Try it out!

Thank you! I bookmarked the link so I can read it soon. And good advise about the banana pancakes too. I like blueberry.
