I'm going on my own and tapering slowly...I told my Dr how it made me feel but he said to continue the Celexa...it's been months and my body has started getting dizzy and everything since I started them . So I'm doing what's best for ME. I guess I'm asking how do I safely taper off 20mg ?? And I'm going to look for a new Dr in mean time who will listen and try maybe another med, depending on how I do without meds

Tell your current dr the side effects are too debilitating. It takes some time to find the right med. You really need some medical supervision while tapering and changing meds.

I think it makes sense to listen to your own body !! I always knew pretty quickly when something wasn’t right for me and told my psychiatrist and stopped taking it. I agree you need to find a new psychiatrist if the current one is not willing to work with you. You know your own body the best !! Best of luck I hope you feel better soon. You need to taper down the dose and will need lower doses prescribed for you unfortunately or maybe take it every other day. Then when you feel okay every two days etc. Just an idea for tapering off.

It's best to taper slowly off of it. You can get a pill cutter if you need one from a local pharmacy to cut the pills into halves and even quarters and do a couple of weeks at each size gradually getting smaller. That way you can even go from a full pill to 3/4, 1/2 and then 1/4 pill. As a general rule, the slower you go the more you give your body and mind time to adjust.

I had to come off of celexa 40 MG when they changed me to Wellbutrin, after about 15 years, & the only major issue i had was bad stomach aches (due to seretonin receptors in our stomachs), so I'd take a tiny piece every time that happened, & it resolved it. I realize everyone is different, though. Best of luck on getting that worked out. I think u should at least give this doctor another chance, & just tell him what the other person mentioned, that the side effects are too strong & u can't take the medicine anymore, & ask what he recommends to do to get off of them. Ask if you should swap to something else, or just try being on nothing.

I know nothing about that particular drug. Can you split the pill? Slowly reduce your dosage. Take a little off your daily and go a few days like that then take a little more off. If the reduction has a negative effect bring it back up for a few more days. Getting off Xanax I was told to cut a little bit off the the pill and go a few days then file a little more off. Gotta be careful with Xanax. That’s my take on the process. Hope this helps.
