starting a job, very anxious

It's far from my dream job, but it will give me something to do during the day

and more importantly help generate some income ,.. we need it.

Still, I am a bit anxious about it, but I guess that is normal.

yep it is completely normal to be nervous about a new job. if you dont mind me asking what general area is your job?i might be able to have better ways to cope if i know what you are doing

I guess it might be IT, I will be doing Python programming.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have been anxious and depressed for about 6 months in this episode.

But I have had longer episodes.

I guess change. You would think that I would welcome change since I have been depressed for 6 months, but not so much.

I guess I am worried that I am not going to come out of this depression.

That is the big worry.

well a part of depression is that its hard to change even if it would help. Its like we try and prevent ourselves from getting better.Just try and talk to your new coworkers and try personalizing your work space if you can.you dont have to talk much but try and say small things like a simple hi and ask their name. After a while you will feel more comfortable it just takes some time

thanks. Working remotely so still pretty isolated which is one of the big factors in my depression. We moved here 4.5 years ago and I still only have a few aquaintences.

Before we moved I had about 5 circles of friends: work, church neighborhood, commute, other. It was a bad idea to move here ... and I have spent far to much time ruminating over it and regreting it.

ah coding? You will have a few days just learning the infrastructure so you can keep your head down and focus on that. You might be focused on setting up your accounts anyway. Python is cool. I am a data analyst but I rarely work with python. Now I’m moving away from code so I probably never will 🤷🏼‍♀️

if you are struggling with the isolation of remote work try desk pass. You can try various shared workspaces (think wework). One you find one you do get to meet people. They often have workshops and happy hour.

That is totally normal. Good luck!
