In the past I've enjoyed listening to Christmas tunes. Especially traditional Christmas songs on Pandora. Last year I stood away from it at all costs. But this year I'm wondering if it's too early to start listening..... Any thoughts.

Is it too early to start listening to Christmas songs?
Nope nope ...nopenopenope!π€£βοΈπ§βπβοΈπ¨οΈπas a matter of fact I listened to Christmas π΅πΆ music on the radio π» on the way to work YESTERDAY!! Local station starting playing them Nov 1 and I'm partaking in the annual festivity early this year. Im not a christmas-y celebration type person. I promise I will π« not put up a tree, attend a single get-together or holiday function or buy superfluous knick knacks no one wants. We have no kids and work in the casino, so we've not "celebrated" in decades. All our family members are out of state (thankfully) and that takes the pressure off of creating excuses to go to awkward parties and gatherings. Plus we altered our diets this year too, so other peoples cooking is kinda an unsavory option. My hubby and I are social recluses for a myriad of reasons. We attended a bbq on labor day in September. It was 3 hours of emotional exhaustion. I literally slept the entire next day for how much it depleted me. So there's THAT π. People and social group interactions can be very anxiety producing events for us both.
MUSIC πΌ touches the heart and soul. Its memories in audio. Brings back good feelings and transports your mind to places and times you're fond of and sometimes don't remember until that "one particular song" starts to play. Very nostalgic and comforting. Yep....it's not too early for Xmas πΆ music. Walking in a winter wonderland....βοΈ
The beginning of your response almost knocked me off my chair laughing... I cannot, and absolutely will not, argue with what you said. Thank you for your words and thank you for sharing your experiences. Priceless!
π₯³I've read some of your posts and responses. We are cut from the same cloth.... everyone here is. We have all been through the mental health wringer of life. Anxiety and depression are formidable foes and keeping ahead of them is a daily grind. Most of the time I feel like a pile of dust, ready to scatter in all directions if the π¬οΈπ wind blows too hard. They've taken so much of me over the years, I often times wonder who the eff I am anymore.ππ€¦
Couldn't have said this any better if I tried my friend. Like you, depression and anxiety has taken many things from me over the years but the biggest loss has been myself. I often feel ashamed because I feel, I know, that I've given up the fight. Waved the white flag. There are those who have no idea what it's like to battle mental health illness so I'm sure I'm often labeled a loser or quitter. Very difficult to explain to someone what it's like to fight day in and day out with a very little reprieve. No different than getting into a boxing ring with a heavyweight champion and get pummeled each and every time. Sooner or later you get tired of wiping away the blood and tears and picking yourself up off the floor. So I see it as just taking a beating and staying on the floor for the count, and even after the count is over.
Are you kidding? I listened to "O Holy Night" just last night.
Fantastic.... I thought I was being weird because it's barely the first week in November but somehow Christmas music, in the past at least, has always cheered me up. Thank you my friend and enjoy your Christmas tunes.
You're welcome! You as well!
Our downtown Christmas market opens on November 12, so you aren't early at all. Christmas things are in the stores too.
I have found that Christmas music brings me much joy. I say listen to it whenever you want!
Thank you krn210.... Good to hear from you my friend. Got some laundry to do so I'm going to throw on my headphones and crank it up!!
That sounds great! I had to laugh a little because I saw your post right as I was starting a Christmas movie π€£ Maybe we can put up some decor at the same time π
That's a heck of a coincidence! I haven't been decorating during the last two or three years but I think I'll do it this year. Hopefully listening to some holiday tunes will get me back into the Christmas spirit.
Itβs never too early , listen to all the Christmas music you like !
Already started.... π€£π΅
Nope.... enjoy
π¬
I've been watching Christmas movies since October, and I was unapologetically blasting White Christmas by The Drifters during my drive yesterday. The spirit of the holiday and music is infectious. Have fun.
The Drifters, can't beat that hands down! π΅π΅
Drifters/White Christmas π
if you enjoy it why not! I know lots of people who do it. It makes them happy!
Thanks Gillyflower..... I used to enjoy it a lot in the past but I haven't truly enjoyed it in the last two or three years. For some reason today I just feel like pumping those Christmas tunes.
if it makes you happy listen to the Christmas music. However, as I have been posting since I joined HU almost 3 years ago, there R people on HU from various faiths and backgrounds other than Christianity. This is is Shnookie. Iβm Jewish.
There R Christmas Blues songs like
Merry Christmas Baby by Charles Brown
and of course Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt that I love to listen to. It might be interesting for people who R reading these posts to try listening to Chanukah π-
Jewish holiday that occurs at different times in December. The zjewish Faith follows a lunar calendar so the holiday falls on different days. There is also the
Holiday of Kwanza originating from some
members of the Black communities in the
U. S. In the 1960βs and occurs in
late December right after Christmas. Inclusivity and gaining knowledge of various religions and cultural practices
should be important to those participating in the HU community. U guys can try out
listening to I have a little Dreidel a childrenβs Chanukah song and also featured on Sesame Street. Hugs π€ S
Hello, thanks for your response. I'm actually not religious at all. More of a Darwinian myself but I find Christmas music to be joyous and spiritually uplifting. It's such a feel-good time of the year which I used to enjoy but have been having difficulties during the last few years getting into it again. So I decided that this year I would try to get back into the old family traditions we used to have.
I think that is great. However it is still important that we be inclusive during the holiday season. There R people who do not listen to Christmas music. As a Jew, I do not celebrate Christmas. Iβm happy celebrating Chanukah. In the past and growing up, I enjoyed being invited to Christmas celebrations. It is important to remember especially on a website such as HU, that there R many members with various faiths and belief systems
Thereβs just too much beautiful Christmas music to squeeze it all in in just one day a year, a month, two monthsβ¦β¦we make our own rules and rock all year! ππΌ
Hi Obsolete - I am speaking here as an Anglican Lay Minister of religion, I love Christmas, it is a wonderful time of year. I love Christmas songs, both the Christmas Carols and the 'chart songs' by the many individuals who sing them. I dislike intensely the constant playing from late November until 'the' Day. To me having these tunes almost 24/7 blaring out, actually takes the joy of the Christmas season away. It only goes to remind me of the way shops, stores, restaurants, and the like go out of their way to advertise and get people to part with hard earned cash for presents, foods etc: This is NOT what Christmas is about! Christmas is about the birth of our Saviour (if we'll have Him.) We have a radio station here in UK it is called MAGIC, and from September/October (sometimes earlier) they advertise a special 'family Christmas show' at the London Palladium - tickets are from about Β£60 upwards, and they plugging this show, whilst the many people in financial hardship struggle to give their children food, the necessities, heat. It drives me mad how people can be insensitive to the needs of others. They are actually lining the pockets of the huge rock stars who already have plenty. Christmas is also 'the' season for loving kindness, we don't see an awful lot of that at the moment too many people who only WANT for themselves. We now also have a 'travel company', who have adopted 'It's the most wonderful time of the year', to holiday's all through the year it jingles on -
I couldn't agree with you more on the commercialism of Christmas. Huge money here in the States but I guess it's the same everywhere. I think often we forget what the true meaning of the holiday season is. I've always enjoyed Christmas because of the uplift and spirits that I get from watching children running around enjoying the holidays and the gathering with friends and family. Unfortunately I've not been able to enjoy the holidays as much during the last few years and I've completely lost the spirit of the season. I'm not a religious man but this season is infectious with joy. But, I think many of us have failed to really appreciate it

I started watching Christmas movies todayπ. I dont even celebrate Christmas and am no believer. Just enjoy the cheerfulness
Ohh you read my mind. Just today I was thinking about watching a Christmas story with Peter billingsley. I'm definitely getting into it... ππ
I'm watching it nowπ...just finished up Elf.
If it makes you feel good, do it! Nobody else's business but yours.
Wouldn't be my chosen music in early November, but then, I'm a grumpy old battleaxe, and would prefer not to hear it before December!
I enjoy it in moderation.
Cheers, Midori
ππ.... I'm definitely getting my fill
