For me, Christmas is the most depressing time of year.

I can't remember when Christmas was a happy time, of course there were glimpses of times which were agreeable, when as a very young child when my world was young and captured a kind of magic.

But as an adult Christmas has meant absolutely nothing and i can't subscribe to the idea that for 2 days of the year everyone is a friend.

The falseness surrounding Christmas is all consuming and it really is nothing but a time of waste, spending on things people can ill afford, and buying mountains of food which cannot possibly be eaten in a couple of days.

I make no apology for having Christian beliefs and whether that offends anyone i really don't care and my faith is certainly not all consuming, for i make plenty of mistakes along the way and very few of my friends are Christians but that doesn't make them bad people.

And then the thought is that Jesus was not even born in December, it was more like March/April.😮

If Christmas did not exist something like it would have to be invented to see us through the Winter.😁

This time of year is so hard on some people.

I don't think you should apologize for your religious connection to the holiday. It means different things to different people.

I'm not religious and I enjoy the holiday in my way. I spend time with my family unit, no dysfunction allowed. We have a fabulous day together. I enjoy gifting and all that goes along with it.

One thing I've never done is attending work parties, this is where the " fake" is for me. Gathering with the ones I didn't have a good working relationship with never made sense to me

I hope you find a way to get through this season. You have had a difficult year

I’m not one for Christmas either , but not because I don’t have wonderful memories as a child , but since my parents and much of my extended family have gone it’s not the same, I think it’s a children’s time. Though I dont understand when you say you have Christian beliefs how you don’t celebrate Christmas?

i can say i have Christian beliefs but i don't have to agree with everything said in the bible because a lot of it is pure conjecture. But i do celebrate the day with friends.

I agree, also Christmas has got so commercialised , it’s all about how much we can spend which starts about August lol

Hi Secrets, Right with you there! There is far too much razzmatazz around Holidays nowadays; anything to make you part with money!

I'm not religious, I used to be, but no more.

All these 'Christmas Fayres'; overpriced stuff, kid's toys, etc., when I was little, decorating the house was the major thing, especially as it was not long after WW2, and we had to get creative and make our own decorations, as there was virtually nothing to buy. Even the tree was anything we could get our hands on, a lot of time it was just a branch to add fake paper leaves and flowers to. Good fun crafting them though!

We didn't have turkeys either, an old boiler chicken was the nearest to a bird, and you might get some sausage meat with dried fruit in, baked, or if the butcher liked your family you might get a small roasting joint. the veg were all things like carrots, roast spuds, parsnips and sprouts (boiled till soft), I hated them!

This year it's going to be a challenge, as my son is fairly new to diabetes; so most of the sweet stuff is out the window! We will manage, I must just stop looking at Supermarket ads!😆 👍

Cheers, Midori

Me, born in 1948, just before the NHS, and in time for the Berlin Airlift! The airlift was a magnificent thing, hundreds of Cargo planes flying into East Berlin each day, full of essentials for the East German folks. saw something on it on Youtube that the amount of provisions equated to the weight of something like 17 Blue Whales each day!

Cheers, Midori
