what are peoples preferences? Which one has the least side effects? Experiences please. Citalopram was too severe for me.

i was put on citalopram in my mid teens as they had me on zoloft and tamazapam for anxiety and clinical depression (the zoloft and tamazapam were both horrific) i found citalopram to be the best so far i still have the nausea daily but none of the other horrific side effects such as drowsiness, or disordered thinking the other meds gave, and im not crying all the time either 🌹

how long have you been on citalopram? I couldn’t handle the side effects severe burning and my muscles were so weak and severe panic attacks. Can l ask what does you were on on the sertraline and citalopram. Thank you for replying.

ive been on the citalopram from my mid-late teen years until 24 (except during my two pregnancies i was told not to take it during pregnancy) and back on it this year the drowsy and other side effects from the other meds were dangerous (left me vulnerable until the drowsy feeling wore off) now i just have the normal side effects and nausea (chocolate helps a lot with that lol)

I have been on sertraline for 4 years now as they have been working for me. I was put on 50mg in March 2018 to try for 6 months, but about a week before my 6 month review my late dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer due to smoking and my depression took a nose dive so to speak, so when I had my review with the doctor the following week and I told him what had happened and he put me on the 100mg tablets and I have been on the 100mg of sertraline ever since.

I have been on citalopram before, but they didn't work for long.

thank you. How did you find the side effects. That’s my main worry.

fluoxetine worked best for me ,gives you mental energy but can raise anxiety in the early stages , sertraline made me to mellow and emotionally numb, escitalopram is pretty good, not many side effects and it gets to work fast

is it your 2nd day on sertraline?

Valleyheath profile image
Valleyheath

no sorry. It is my 15 day. I had to do 7 days with both of them.

it states 2-4 weeks for side effects to go,. Just 15 days seem like 6 months to me at the moment

did it heighten your anxiety? Are you managing to work?

Valleyheath profile image
Valleyheath

I’m retired thank goodness. Think anxiety staying the same.

Valleyheath profile image
Valleyheath

noooo. That was the one good thing about mirtazapine- 8 hours solid sleep every night

RayannAbbey profile image
RayannAbbey in reply to Valleyheath

how long do you sleep? With citalopram I was only sleeping two hours. Do you wake up in a panic?

Valleyheath profile image
Valleyheath

2-3 hours. Yes I wake up panicking
