If the Japanese had not attacked the U.S. fleet at Pearl Harbour the United States would not have entered World War Two. FDR won the election of 1940 with the promise that "no American boys are going to die in foreign conflicts". Who can blame Americans for their isolationism, you can't declare war on countries just because you don't like their leaders. "America fights for America only!" All that changed in an instant when Japan attacked Pearl Harbour on "a day that will live for ever in infamy." America's entry into WW2 saved our bacon. Britain alone was too weak to resist the German war machine, we would all have ended up speaking German.

My tribute is to the hundreds of thousands of U.S. soldiers, airmen and sailors who fought and died to save Britain. And the U.S. civilians for their full hearted support for the war effort. And after the War when we were bankrupt and starving America sent us the food that saved us under the Marshall Aid Plan. Well I remember as a child a tin of pineapple with the handshake symbol of the Marshall Aid Plan printed upon it.

Maybe America gets it wrong from time to time but I for one is terribly grateful for all your support. And would much prefer to have you on our side than be against you.

in reply toJeff1943

thank u ....all accurate after ww1....america was isolationist and vowed to stay out of euriopean conflicts..all true.......Hitler was an extremist and the British fought heroically but the wolf packs were horribly effective ....the British went and got their men across the channel....which unless u have lived there...is no treat.....all craft went....and faced Hitlers machine with anything and refused to capitulate........The British housed my father during the war...countles s hospitals... Americans over flowing their country while thier men in Africa and

British people opened their homes late at night to house lost amerian teenagers

British doctors saved my brother in Wales -housed in the mans home til he got better.....i had no way to pay the man and his wife..i was a stupid teenager...my brother so sick....

on and on....because of the War...

all correct only the Marshal plan should have rebullt not europe but

not knocking what my fathers generation did....not at all...

he lived with British familes while their people were overseas....

the nation nearly starved and yet worked themselves to keep the factories and fighters built....not do to inadquacy but the wolf packs so effective.....and yet.....they stayed at their machines....

Yes it is a fantastically interesting story those years from 1940 to say 1990. My uncle Jim was head of the Heavy Rescue Squad for Westminster in WW2, they pulled the dead and the living from the flaming ruins after an air raid. Uncle Jim loved roast beef and roast lamb but he couldn't stomach roast pork after the War as the aroma of it cooking brought back terrible memories if you know what I mean.

WWII was something that should never have happened but it did & it truly was a world effort to batter evil into the waiting rooms of Hades commune.

Yes Britain is probably the only true ally of the USA & no matter what is going on in the world conflict wise we are the ones they ask to go & sort it out. Sometimes we need to step in like in helping the Ukraine , that is 100% legitimate help them but some others we should say sort ur own crap out .

in reply toDodgeDhanda

well said...we need to be slow to go to war...but WW2 as u suggested wasnt a reflexive lashing out.......the Germans didnt like my Soup!!!!!

no...that cancer in that country (implying not all ) evolved and had to be stopped and the allies were not keen about it.....rightly so as they were not that long from the long sufferin previoius war

The British have***** been our allies....when we needed to to to wa in the middle east.....they dont share troop movement secrets .......they do....stand against tyranny as is now in Ukraine fully acknowledging th ight to consiensou objection...........they are not.....anxious to go to war ....but they are true rofessionals an have been for hundreds of years.....

i acdpt all viws aou the Urkainiana an and have my own...but Britain...works with us....times when we need to listen to them an al thi epoxnce......we disucca snas allies...........then plan......and act.....peace o war toghether .....sorryy

my annds falling apart ...

we discuss as allies, work together.....we need to respect our closees5 true ally .....nation of experience we should not tell what to do.....but cousnel with.........they were their in Vietnam....Korea....et etc...their troop quality often supperior ....no offense to our own.....

It's OK I got the gist of what u were writing . A message to all those who are ever in charge make sure that both act as 1 entity & that way more will think twice about war.

in reply toDodgeDhanda

yes and to not misrepresent the British people...yes they were defnint but.....they are sick of war....all of europe is....and u accumulate so many senses of things...its hard to put into wordw in witout a dissertataion...

however....endough was wenough and the preditor wasn t just soemone the world iddnt liike...he started taking over other peacul counties....who looked to the old powers....soo those old pwoers had to mak choce....and then when the preditor start5ed not stipping and live peacefully but blitzing and wiping ou t coventry.....enough was enough and his true colors were demonstrated time and time again....he wasnt going to stop .....and the Brits went at night to show definiance ...the amerinacan refused to lsiten and well enougth said....

i dont wan5s 5o sounds or misrepresnt those people like they think was is gloriy ....tath isnt how they are....but to protct thei children and stop this scourage........they are quiet well temperd adn the wil fight and rebuild and and everon ondi5i4g5unt ....they dont hae to be loud......never underestmat5 5hm ho.......theywil be long gone by the time the german planes or fieldd behind the lines are in ruins.....use thei4 bransin ande no just bravodo......adn expect people to turn ail at th fight of th famerian flag......sometims i think our leaeers thingk thy ar eup against ????? they British are quiet...a lto fo times the merian brado got them spanked warnd by the brisith.....

our Seals and ohters...sorry....Nothing compared to the SAS....no disrespect to the SEALs.....the RAF ane Royal Marines....toghest of the toughest of the toughest.....

i cant put things into words....

i sound like ...and the brits hate praise....tthey just go do their job jungles to anywhere....im soorry......if i praise they will just think i have some superficai yank understanding...........

th marshal plan should have been

for our first ally....get why they rebuild europe....shame our ally our real ally.....wasnt no 2 priority...to maintain briishmodsty....

it wasnt won by the americans not knodking...

it was won by three allies.....with a common real threat...

shame brtain neve had chance to rest after he war.....
